Garden like a Master will present a program on roses

The Master Gardeners of Kershaw County will present a program on "Everything you Need to Know about Growing Roses in South Carolina." The program is sponsored by the South Carolina Midlands Master Gardner Association "Garden Like A Master" (GLAM) series and contains useful information for the home gardener. This presentation will be the first of a series of monthly programs on various gardening topics that will be presented by Kershaw County Master Gardeners in various locations in Kershaw County.

Where’s the truth?

Over the Christmas break, I spent a couple hours cleaning up my office and sorting through all the stuff I've accumulated since the summer. Drakeford named to NLC steering committee

Camden City Council member Alfred Mae Drakeford has been appointed to the National League of Cities' (NLC) 2012 Human Development Steering Committee. The Human Development committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving social services, children and learning, poverty and income support, employment and workforce development, equal opportunity, Social Security and seniors, individuals with disabilities, public health care, mental health parity and immigration reform.

• Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich vowed that he would conduct a positive campaign for the presidency, and he did just that -- until his numbers started dropping. Gingrich, who polled well both in Iowa and New Hampshire at one time, unleashed a series of vitriolic ads against Mitt Romney as Gingrich's star began to fade. Other GOP candidates on the right have done the same as Romney has gained strength. These days, a positive message seems to last only as long as a candidate is doing well.
