Kappa Alpha Psi Beautillion Saturday

The first Camden Chapter Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Beautillion will be held Saturday in Camden High School's (CHS) auditorium Saturday. The Beautillion will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a reception. During the program, young men who have completed Kappa League -- the fraternity's leadership program -- will be presented to their parents, friends, teachers and other invited guests.

Head to Camp R.A.C.E.

Kindergarteners through fifth-graders in Kershaw County can head off to Camp R.A.C.E., a free camp to be held June 11-14 at Doby's Mill Elementary School. The camp will focus on nutrition and agriculture while students have fun with hands-on, real-life experiences with agricultural connections in their community.

Horton earns U.S. Chamber national scholarship

Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Liz Horton is the recipient of a U.S. Chamber of Commerce National Institute Scholarship. Horton is only one of 30 professionals across the country to receive the scholarship, awarded by the U.S. Chamber's Institute for Organization Management (IOM), which recognizes each recipient for their involvement in industry professional organizations, community service, and professional background.

Team politics

The relationship between Gov. Nikki Haley and members of the General Assembly hasn't been exactly lovey-dovey, and there's probably some blame to be placed on both sides. But it does look a bit churlish for the Senate to finally pass a bill that will allow gubernatorial candidates to pick their own running mates, but to postpone the effective date of the bill until after Haley runs for re-election -- as she is presumed to want to do -- two years from now.
