Shamrock needs a home

Among the animals available for adoption at the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter are Shamrock, a 4-month-old male Collie mix and Smokey, a 3-year-old female cat. The adoption donation includes spaying or neutering. The shelter, located at the south end of Fair Street and managed by the Kershaw County Humane Society, is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. City recognizes four honored CPD officers

Four Camden Police Department (CPD) officers received honors recently for their work in the field and with the community. They include two 2013 Officers of the Year, one named by the CPD itself, the other by the American Legion; the 2013 recipient of the CPD's Wilson Clyburn award; and recognition of another officer for being among the nominees for the S.C. Law Enforcement Network's (SCLEN) 2013 Officer of the Year award.

Harrell case

Politics in South Carolina has always had its seamy side, but the current dust-up between Bobby Harrell, speaker of the state House of Representatives, and Attorney General Alan Wilson is especially intriguing. Harrell, a Charleston Republican, is being investigated for corruption, including possible misuse of campaign funds and possible misuse of his legislative position, charges that grew out of a grand jury proceeding. Law enforcement sources say Harrell's attorneys have been secretly trying to get a state judge to remove Wilson as the chief prosecutor.
