Funeral services for Robert Lee Evans, 50, were held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Albert Allen and the Rev. Greg Sweet officiated. The family received friends Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lugoff-Elgin High School ABLE Club.

Remembering Christmas 1941

Since the close of WWI, the United States had followed a foreign policy of isolationism and neutrality. As the 1930s drew to a close, the rise of Hitler in Germany and of Mussolini in Italy, and the continued aggression of Japan in the Pacific led to war in Europe and a change in United States foreign policy. The nation began serious preparations for the possible entry into this European war. That change in policy began to manifest itself throughout Kershaw County.

Woman burned in Lugoff house fire

A Lugoff woman is back in the area with relatives following treatment at the Augusta Burn Center for injuries suffered in a Nov. 23 house fire. The woman suffered burns to both hands. Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) firefighters treated the woman at the scene before EMS transported her to Palmetto Richland in Columbia and then on to Augusta.

Father Paul Bremninkmeijer will officiate. Burial will follow in Quaker Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM, Sunday, December 1, 2013, with visitation following until 7:30 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, Camden, SC.
