Bob Burroughs

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Bob T. Burroughs, 79, of Columbia, will be held at the Grand Canyon at a later date. Born in Winter Haven, Florida, he was the son of the late Robert Burroughs and Julia Clark Gates. Mr. Burroughs served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a retired residential contractor. He was an avid outdoorsman; hunter, fisherman and archer.

William Alexander Clark Miller

Services for William Alexander Clark Miller, Jr. 94 will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Dr. Miller died Sunday, March 6, 2011. A child’s safety comes first

Dear Annie: When I was 5, my mother married an abusive man. He talked down to us and often resorted to slapping and name calling. On at least three occasions, he was physically abusive -- punching, throwing and beating us. On the other hand, he adopted us and often did nice things, too.

Talking bots

Jackson School hosted its first IGA Lego Invitational Feb. 19. More than 10 teams from across the state attended the tournament, where students collaborated with each other on robot designs and programming skills and participated in the Body Forward robot challenge. The Terminators from Greenville Tech High School won third place; RoboEagles from Moore Intermediate School placed in second; and Mind, Boty and Spirit from Doby's Mill Elementary School won first place. Sounds of jazz music to fill historic downtown Camden
