Hundreds of people filed into Camden's First Baptist Church earlier this week to witness the swearing-in of Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews, and it was good to see that it took Matthews only a few minutes to sign mutual assistance pacts with the sheriffs of five neighboring counties, signaling a new day of cooperation among the local department and those of surrounding areas. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Blanche Edna Brannon, 87, of Bethune will be held Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Bethune Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Brannon Cemetery. The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Monday at the home of Mrs. Nancy Langston. The house is a sprawling ranch with an open floorplan making it perfect for a meeting. The program this month is all about living with orchids. The speaker will be Mr. Stan Hutto who is the past president of the South Carolina Orchid Society.
