Teen warns of dangers from tobacco use

Dear Annie: We are the future. It may sound cheesy, but that's the motto I live by, and it's one of the reasons I believe so strongly in the need to prevent and reduce tobacco use among teens and kids. My passion for tobacco-use prevention started when I saw the harm that tobacco use caused my older sister. She started smoking at age 13 and ended up with an addiction that spiraled out of control, in many ways taking her childhood with it.

BMPFD receives $60,000 FEMA grant

The Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department (BMPFD) recent received a $60,430 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The department will utilize this funding to upgrade portable radio equipment.

Stores cited for selling alcohol, tobacco to minors

The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is citing seven convenience stores, grocery stores and gas stations for selling either alcohol or tobacco to minors. The KCSO conducted Alcohol Enforcement (AET) compliance checks Monday on numerous stores as part of a continuing effort to keep such products out of the hands of Kershaw County minors.
