KCSD: 1¢ sales tax will cover all Phase 2 projects

Based on a report from the S.C. Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office (SCRFAO), the Kershaw County School District's (KCSD) proposed 1-cent sales tax will completely offset the need to raise any millage for a $130 million bond issue to pay for projects in Phase 2 of the district's facilities equalization project (FEP). A taxing situation

If voters approve the Kershaw County School District's $130 million list of projects for Phase 2 of its facilities equalization project (FEP), property taxes will go up in Kershaw County. The question is by how much, especially since the district is also asking voters to approve a 1-cent sales tax that would partially offset any property tax millage increases. Both referenda will be on the ballot on Nov. 4 during the general election.

A fine man

The death of James S. Brady earlier this week marked the end of a decades-long saga of courage and dedication; the former presidential press secretary for Ronald Reagan lived more than 33 years after taking a bullet that was intended for the president. Brady was brutally wounded in Washington when a deranged John W. Hinckley Jr. fired a pistol, hoping his false bravado would impress the movie actress Jodie Foster. Reagan came perilously close to dying, but fully recovered; unfortunately, Brady was dogged by pain and disability for the rest of his life.
