As my family and I move to Aiken, I would be remiss if I did not share my gratitude to this community for all that you have done for us. My husband, KT, grew up here and has loved Camden his entire life. Being from up north, I was unsure if a Michigan girl would fit in. Will Camden accept me? The answer was "yes." Not only did Camden accept me, they allowed me to grow as a mom, a wife, and also as a teacher. I spent five years in this school district, first at Mt. Pisgah and Bethune ...

With spending deficits that can't be sustained without driving this country to financial ruin, lawmakers in Washington have lots of choices before them. So far they seem to be ignoring them. But their job isn't easy, and this week's New York House of Representatives race, in which a Democrat captured a seat in a traditionally Republican district, became a referendum on cutting Medicare benefits, and voters said they didn't like that.
The Wateree Animal Hospital in Elgin held a fundraiser, Bow Wow Backyard Sale, to raise money for the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter. The Wateree Animal Hospital was able to make a $1,600 donation after the sale. The Bow Wow Backyard sale was made possible by donations from community members. The event also featured a k9 exhibition. Organizers plan to have a second sale in the fall.
Women from the House of Representatives came together on May 11 to form the first-ever South Carolina Honorary Girl Scout Troop. As my senior year draws to a close, I've come to the realization that no matter where you go, you will always have someone in a position of authority over you. Being a student for 12 years means that I have been under the authority of many teachers- some wonderful and some not quite so.
The South Carolina Chapter of National School Public Relations Association celebrated the effectiveness of 93 programs and projects from across the state including one from Jackson School at its annual Rewards for Excellence awards ceremony May 6 in Columbia.
This teenage girl, you see, was thinking of having her oversized ears pinned back against her head in a surgical procedure.
I thought the hospitality tax was to be used to bring in tourists. How will the YMCA do this? Who will be willing to travel to Camden just to work out, or to take a swim? Are the people just outside the city limits the tourists the city is counting on? Those of us who don't live in the city limits still pay the hospitality tax because we have no choice; if we want to enjoy the local businesses there, we have to just go along.
Today was the last "Lunch and Learn" at the Health Resource Center. For so many in our community, it was a sad day. The center was a valuable asset to Kershaw County and will be dearly missed. A big thank-you to the wonderful staff.
