Talking bots

Jackson School hosted its first IGA Lego Invitational Feb. 19. More than 10 teams from across the state attended the tournament, where students collaborated with each other on robot designs and programming skills and participated in the Body Forward robot challenge. The Terminators from Greenville Tech High School won third place; RoboEagles from Moore Intermediate School placed in second; and Mind, Boty and Spirit from Doby's Mill Elementary School won first place. Frank Buckles

The nation marked a milestone earlier this week when Frank Buckles of West Virginia, the last surviving U.S. World War I veteran, died at the age of 110. Buckles passed away peacefully, according to his daughter, and remained until the end somewhat bemused by his singular status as last survivor.
