A memorial service celebrating the life of Ray Marion Brasington, 85, of Camden, was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Bethel Worship Center, Camden, SC. Pastor Casey Mills, Pastor Raymond Sellers and Reverend Bruce Hancock officiated. The family received friends following the service in the church sanctuary. Funeral service for Ms. JoAnn Jones Roundtree, 56 of 2524 John G. Richards Road in Camden will be held Wednsday, February 27, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at White Oak Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Ms. Roundtree died Thursday, February 21, 2013. Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Being reared by a mother who was a wonderful cook, I rarely had the chance to do so, Mother's idea being for me to watch her do it. As most teenagers, I had little time for this inactive pursuit. The Walter M. Crowe animal shelter is in desperate need for temporary foster homes for dogs leaving for rescue groups up north. If you are interested please call the shelter at 425-6016 as soon as possible. Animals must be out of the shelter for two weeks in a foster home before they can leave.

• Kudos to the Big Ten conference, which is considering requiring its member schools to stop scheduling "powderpuff" teams; the move comes as resistance increases to the popular practice of schools padding their non-conference schedules with smaller schools which have little football prowess. The practice makes final records look good and it provides a big payday for the small schools, but with ticket prices at high levels, the fans get soaked for watching runaway games.
