Restaurant hours for Charlie's on Broad were incorrectly reported in the New Chamber Member Spotlight featured in the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce publication, The Connection, which was included in Monday's Chronicle-Independent. Charlie's, located at 1035 Broad St. in Camden, is open every day of the week -- Sunday through Saturday -- from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 5 p.m. until the last customer is served.

The drama that's been playing out for a couple weeks in Wisconsin over public sector unions has moved to Ohio, and it's almost certain that the issue of public unions isn't going away. While union membership has been declining for years in private business, that hasn't been the case with public unions; in 2009, for the first time in this country's history, a majority of unionized workers were in government jobs rather than private ones. One of the many priceless moments in the 1990 film "Kindergarten Cop" takes place when Detective John Kimble, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, tries to explain why he is a kindergarten teacher. Area schools seem to provide positive learning experience

All Kershaw County residents and parents should be very proud of their schools. For two weeks in February, I was a member of a team who administered an assessment called the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) or the Nation's Report Card, to 4th and 8th graders at four Kershaw County schools. The students were cooperative and polite and stayed on task the entire assessment period. They asked questions about the test and appeared committed to doing their best.
