Mr. and Mrs. Joseph H. Parsons celebrate 50 years of marriage

Joe and Judi Parsons of Camden recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family. They were married on December 22, 1962. They have two sons, Scot Parsons (Columbia) and Brad Parsons (Lugoff) and five grandchildren, Connor, Joey, Will, Kallie and Gracie.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Elizabeth "Betty" Chmell Carlton, of Camden, will be held at 11:00 AM, January 5, 2013 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Rev. Steve Patterson will offciate. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of one's choice.

• As you settle back to enjoy holiday football, we have a startling statistic for you regarding the size of college football players. A recent survey which focused on linemen over seven decades revealed the average lineman today weighs more than half again as much as his 1950 counterpart. Over that time, according to a recent news report, the average offensive and defensive lineman grew to just over 290 pounds from just above 190. We can't even predict how big they'll be in another 50 years.

Was it really Santa Claus?

Childhood is a wonderful time! A small child really believes he or she could "catch a falling start and put it … in a pocket." Nothing is impossible. Also, the warmth of love and acceptance comes from family and friends. Nowhere are the problems of finance or payment. Some children even tell their parents, when told they are big boys or girls, "I don't want to grow up." Even the story Peter Pan concerns a group of children who fly off with Peter, who has never had to grow up.
