Did you know that last year Kershaw County received a grant and we didn't even ask for it? You might think that was pretty neat until you found out why we received this grant. We were given this grant because Kershaw County has the third highest DUI accident rate per capita of any county in South Carolina.

Now is time to address proposed school legislation

In reading the various media reports coming out about the General Assembly, it can be extremely difficult to understand the full effect of what is being debated and ultimately decided. Unfortunately, legislation is often written in such a way that its real impact is lost on someone who doesn't deal with legislation all the time. In this particular year, when decisions made to cut the state budget will have profound impact, it is more important than ever for citizens to understand what lawmakers and others are proposing.

Economic ambassador

Clowning around

The circus is coming to town! Children in the 2-year-old class at Grace Church Kindergarten and Preschool had lots of fun learning about the circus last week. They enjoyed making their own clown outfits and circus lions! Lugoff-Elgin Girl Scout Troop kicks off cookie sales

Hello from your Elgin -Lugoff Girl Scout Troop No. 968. We are extremely pleased to share with everyone that another of our girls, Sarah Boykin, has reached her goal of earning the Silver Award. This is the highest girl scout award given to girls in grades 6 - 8. Sarah worked hard making treats and toys for the Walter M.Crowe Animal Shelter. She also spent a number of days this past summer volunteering at the shelter. We are all very proud of her.

Get your poetry published

The Camden Poets Society is offering an opportunity for poets in the community to have their poetry published. It will print a literary letter each month and print five to 10 poems selected by members of the CPS from the poems submitted. This publication will be distributed to various sites in the community and offered free to the public. This is an effort to encourage the writing of poetry and to have a printed media for those who write poetry. The poems remain the property of the poet. Next Camden Garden Club meeting to be held at Bloomsbury

The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Monday at Bloomsbury the home of Mrs. Katherine Brown. The old historic home has been converted into a bed and breakfast and the grounds have been documented and are absolutely beautiful. The program this month will be Water Conservation and Water Features. The speaker will be Mr. Tommy Marshall. He is the owner of Marshall Landscaping and he will discuss water harvesting and water features for gardens, patios, and private garden rooms.
