Ready to respond

After 48 hours of classroom instruction and practical training, Erica Broughton and Jeremy Kennington are now certified as Medical First Responders with the Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department. Both volunteers recently attended training with other Kershaw County firefighters at Antioch Fire Department. With the addition of Broughton and Kennington, the Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah FD now has 14 Medical First Responders in service. Since the beginning of the program in March 2011, the department has responded to 44 medical calls in the Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah/Gates Ford areas. The First Responders have assisted patients until KershawHealth EMS Paramedics arrived to further treat and transport ...

Three of Camden’s Confederate memorials honored during 100 year monument rededication ceremony

In June the S. C. Division Children of the Confederacy (C of C) along with John D. Kennedy Chapter No. 308 United Daughters of the Confederacy and Joseph B. Kershaw Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp No. 81 rededicated three of Camden's Confederate Monuments which were erected in 1911: The Pantheon in Rectory Square, The Richard Kirkland Memorial Fountain in Hampton Park, and Richard Kirkland's Grave in Quaker Cemetery.

KCSO, SLED locate marijuana grows

As they flew over Kershaw County July 7, Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies and S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) agents located three marijuana grows. Deputies and agents arrested four people at the grows and arrested a fifth later.

Betty Ford

Many Kershaw Countians who are past middle age undoubtedly recall with fondness former First Lady Betty Ford, who died last week at age 93. Her husband, Gerald Ford, became president upon Richard Nixon's resignation following the Watergate scandal; he had earlier been appointed to the vice presidency after Spiro Agnew resigned in disgrace.
