Funeral service for Mrs. Willie Mae Neal, 70, of 2378 Baron DeKalb Road in Camden, will be held Wednesday, February 16, 2011, 2:00 P.M. at Scott Hill Baptist Church, 2301 Flint Hill Road in Camden with burial in the St. John Baptist Church cemetery, 3328 John G. Richards Road in Camden. Viewing will be one hour prior to service and a parting view. Collins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral service for Alliene Ray, 83, of Cassatt, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Cassatt Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Coppedge and Rev. Robert Brown will officiate. The family received friends Tuesday 6-8 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Hightower. FAC celebrates diversity with weekend events, including Gospel Fest, Heritage Tea

"A spirit of community unity is the message we continue to convey," said Dionne Hough, chair of the Fine Arts Center's Multi-cultural Committee, as she described a weekend of special events Feb. 19 and 20. Hough is one of many individuals who have worked to put together a celebration of culture with a special emphasis on Black History at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC). The weekend includes a display of student work examining the contributions of great Americans, a Gospel Fest and a showcase of local talent.

GOP stable

With President Obama having come forth with a proposed budget that's big on tax increases and small on spending cuts, political eyes will be turning toward Republicans to see which GOP hopeful will step out and establish a position as a frontrunner. Incumbent presidents have a terrific advantage, but the 2010 Democratic debacle is full indication that Obama won't be a shoo-in for another term in the White House. Kershaw County voters will be keeping their eyes on the race, just as voters across the country will.
