USC appointment

We commented last week on the puzzling decision that Gov. Nikki Haley made in not re-appointing Darla Moore to the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees. We still aren't clear why Haley chose to pick a fight with Moore and so many university alumni who are grateful for the $70 million pledge Moore has made to USC. But Sen. Jake Knott's intention to pass a new law opening another seat on the board, and then to have Moore run for it, isn't the proper way for legislators to express their disapproval.

Fred Lewis Price Sr.

Fred Lewis Price, Sr., 88, of Columbia, died on Sunday, March 20, 2011. A funeral service was held 2 o'clock, Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at Hope Baptist Church, 2117 Clemson Road, Columbia. Interment, with military honors, followed at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens where the family greeted friends. Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Price's nephews, Richard Price, Charles Price, W.D. KCSO investigator honored for service

Columbia Northeast American Legion Post No. 182 presented Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Investigator Justin Dill with a special law enforcement award for "outstanding public service." Dill received the award Feb. 8 at the post's annual public safety awards dinner at Fort Jackson.
