• Nobody understood why Liz Cheney, daughter of the former vice president, jumped into a Wyoming race for the U. S. Senate, a seat held by popular Republican Dick Enzi. Cheney moved from the east coast to establish residency there, then caused a family rift with her comments about gay life; her sister, Mary, is a lesbian. It was a quirky, inexplicable move which ended earlier this week when she dropped out of the race in the face of nearly certain defeat. Politics is a strange business, indeed.

If you want to know what's in the budget before it's too late to make a difference, you'll need to come to Columbia and spend three days a week from January to April, and attend a variety of budget subcommittee and committee meetings -- and even then you won't have any firm idea of which programs and agencies state leaders ...

There is no doubt that 2013 was a stressful and challenging year for KershawHealth. But it was also the year this healthcare system celebrated its centennial, and I can assure you, there are very few hospitals that have duplicated this accomplishment. It's easy to see why. In the short time that I've been at KershawHealth, I've already seen tremendous strengths here that are a huge benefit, not only to the hospital, but to the community at large. It's clear that KershawHealth has a solid foundation to build on for the future.

Funeral service for Mrs. Eartha Taylor Aiken, 56, of Columbia, was held Saturday, January 11, 2014, 12:00 P.M. at Collins Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the St. Stephen Baptist Church cemetery. Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Lillian Burton Cheatham Richter Eisenback, 90, of Camden, SC. Will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel in Camden, SC. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Entombment for Mrs. Eisenback will be held at a later date in New Albany, IN.
