House of Representatives, illegally funneled campaign contributions to his own use should be examined in the brightest possible light, and that means letting a grand jury decide what happened rather than turning the matter over to the House Ethics Committee, which isn't experienced in such investigations and doesn't have the power to take effective action.

Polly Davis Dinkins

Mrs. Polly Davis Dinkins, 92, of Camden, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 20, 2014. Born in Boykin, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lizzie Levan Davis and the wife of the late James Dinkins. A Celebration of Life and Homegoing service will be held Friday, April 25, 2014 at 1 p.m., at Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, Rembert, with burial in Cedars Cemetery, Camden. Mrs. Dinkins will be placed in the church at 12 p.m. for viewing. Brown's Funeral Home, Camden is serving the Dinkins family.

Sticking up for the Pine tree

Nothing quite marks spring here in South Carolina like the blooming of daffodils and dogwoods, the fluttering of robins and the release of the pine pollen. Each spring as I walk my dog through the woods during the height of pine pollen release, my footsteps stir the airy spores and coat my shoes. Is it annoying? You betcha. BARK! The Musical comes to Fine Arts Center

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the Camden Community Theatre (CCT) bring you the highly anticipated BARK! The Musical, a howlingly funny production directed by Jami Steele, the FAC's new Education/Theatre Director. The production will run May 1 - 4 in the Wood Auditorium. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military. BARK! The Musical is sponsored by Powers Funeral Home. The play is dedicated to the memory of Judith Anne "Judy" Firestone Thiel, a longtime animal lover and staunch supporter of the Walker M. Crowe Animal Shelter.

Kershaw County Master Gardeners plant sale

It'll be here before you know it. It's Spring and the Kershaw County Master Gardeners are having their Spring Plant sale Saturday, May 10 (the day before Mother's Day). A large collection of everything needed for a garden will be available for purchase. The sale will be held, as always, at the Homemakers Building at Church and DeKalb Streets in Camden. The doors open at 8 a.m. to a wonderland of plants to replace what the winter or spring may have taken away.
