Camden beats Lugoff-Elgin in United Way campaign competition

Camden High School took home the Caring Cup Sept. 17 when they surpased Lugoff-Elgin High School by more than $7,000. CHS students raised $13,700. L-EHS brought in just more than $6,500.

Voter requirements

South Carolina recently passed a law that requires voters to show a photo ID when they go to the polls, and we have said all along those who object to such a move are throwing a red herring into the equation. There's certainly nothing wrong with having people prove who they say they are when they go to exercise the basic right of democracy, and the photo ID law does nothing to prevent people from voting or making it more difficult for them to do so.

KC Show Club takes top honors

The Kershaw County Show Choir recently competed at Carowinds and won Best Overall High School Show Choir. In order to compete in the final competition, the choir had to first receive a Superior rating in the preliminary competition. Up on the roof

Camden Elementary School Principal Ed Yount spent Monday night on the school's roof as part of an agreement made after challenging the elementary school students to raise $1,000 for the United Way of Kershaw County's campaign. The students actually exceeded the $1,000 benchmark, and raised as much as $1,349 through a variety of school fundraisers. On Tuesday morning, Yount said he knew the students would reach their goal, but was pleasantly surprised they exceeded it. Rushing wins Thurmond Excellence in Law Enforcement award

A Kershaw County man who has served with the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) since 1999 is this year's winner of the state-level Strom Thurmond Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement.
