Cub Scouts: Doing their best

Cub Scout Pack 303 held its annual Pinewood Derby Race in Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church's Auditorium in March. Cub Scouts take a rectangular block of wood and design and build a car to race in the annual event. Before the Pinewood Derby Race, Cub Scouts and their parents pledge that they have created their own car, and that they will have good sportsmanship. The annual race is a highlight of the Cub Scout program. The Polo tradition continues in Camden…

Polo -- "the sport of kings" -- returns to Camden for the 12th annual Camden Cup Polo Match. Set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m., the Camden Cup -- an annual spring benefit for the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) -- will include the polo match as well as the popular Best Tailgate and Best Hat competitions. This once-a-year event is a chance for everyone to enjoy the sport of polo. Gates open at 11 a.m. and the match will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Candlelight for Lizzie

Visitors to Hampton Park in Camden Saturday night wrote messages of encouragement to the 4-year-old Lugoff girl who underwent surgery after suffering two broken arms and a broken leg in alleged abuse in her home. The child's mother and boyfriend have been charged. Melissa Ogle organized the candlelight vigil in support of the child and to raise awareness of child abuse. With an outpouring of community concern, the United Way of Kershaw County stepped forward to accept donations for the little girl. They may be sent to the United Way, 110 E. 4-H Clover Campaign underway at TSC

The Kershaw County 4-H program has teamed with Tractor Supply Company (TSC) in Camden will join 4-H in support of local youth with the TSC Paper Clover Campaign, a national in-store fundraising effort to benefit state and local 4‑H programming in each of the communities where a Tractor Supply Company store is located.

Season comes to an end for county teams

Things were no better in round two of the state playoffs than they were in opening night play for Kershaw County teams as the Lugoff-Elgin and North Central baseball teams saw their seasons come to an end while the Camden and L-E softball teams were knocked out of the state tourney with second round losses.
