The Camden Lions Club recently installed new officers and thanked the community for its support of club programs, having collected more than 1,300 pairs of used eye glasses. Boxes are located at the Food Lion shopping center in Lugoff, Rubin Eye Care Center in the K-Mart shopping center, the Walmart Vision Center, Belk and the Food Lion shopping center in Dusty Bend. Lainey Williams, a rising third grader at Camden Elementary School (CES), recently competed in karate nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She is the national champion for kata (forms) and won bronze in kubodo (weapons) and kumite (sparring). This qualified her for Junior Olympics. She is the superregional champion in the 8-year-old female category for kubodo and won silver in kumite, and bronze in kata. She is also the North Carolina Champion in all three events.
