KCC looks to fill shell building

Wilburn Baker
Funeral services for Wilburn Hazel Baker, 80, of Camden, will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Wayne Flowers will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
KC Farmers Market spotlighted
Kershaw County plants, fruits and vegetables will get their proverbial place in the sun this month as the city of Camden and Kershaw County have proclaimed August as "Farmers Market Month." The announcement coincides with Gov. Nikki Haley's similar recognition of "Farmers Market Month" across the state.

Jones reacts to Patriots controversy
Kershaw County Councilman Jimmy Jones took time during council's meeting Tuesday to denounce what some have deemed controversial actions by Jeff Mattox, co-chair of the Kershaw County Republican Party. Jones said the local Republican Party has been "hijacked by anti-government extremists" and that "free speech doesn't mean irresponsible speech."
King Haiglar post office may close
Camden's King Haiglar post office may be on the chopping block. The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is looking to cut back on costs. The King Haiglar branch, located in Dusty Bend and which opened in April 2000, is listed as one of 3,700 post offices nationwide under review for closure.
