Offseason moves will help Braves whip Washington

If the Atlanta Braves are going to capitalize on last season's success, they'll need two key ingredients in 2013. The first will be finding the offensive numbers to replace retired third baseman Chipper Jones. A clubhouse staple since he arrived on the scene in 1995, his 14 homers and .287 batting average in 2012 were obviously down numbers for the future Hall of Famer. However, for a team that ranked 21st in overall batting last season, any player with an average over .250 is considered a gift.

L-EWA approves clearwell repair project during meeting

The Lugoff-Elgin Water Authority (L-EWA) board unanimously approved a $150,192 repair project at the authority's water treatment plant during its meeting Thursday. The project calls for improvements to a leaking clearwell tank, which would involve repairs of pits and holes, sandblasting, and recoating the tank inside and out.

KCC to discuss ambulance bids for KershawHealth

Kershaw County Council will consider the awarding of bids for two KershawHealth ambulances during Tuesday's meeting. Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter said the costs of the ambulances were already incorporated in the county's 2012-2013 fiscal year budget.

County searching for new planning/zoning head

Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter is currently looking for someone new to lead the county's Planning and Zoning Department. Former director John Newman left the position in December after serving since June 2006. Carpenter didn't clarify the cause of Newman's exit, simply categorizing it as a "personnel matter." Assistant County Planner Carolyn Hammond will head the department on an interim basis.
