A meeting of the newly-formed Firearms Discharge Advisory Committee will be held at 6 p.m. Monday in Conference Room 190 at the Kershaw County Government Center, 515 Walnut St. in Camden. Kershaw County Councilman Sammie Tucker Jr. said the committee was formed after a meeting July 16 was held to discuss firearms usage in the county.

A Lexington man died Thursday when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in Lugoff. Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers said Steven Wayne Brabham, 43, died from blunt force trauma to the head as a result of the crash. The S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) reported Brabham was not wearing a helmet.
A committee of citizens interested in building a new playground in western Kershaw County reports it has already reached 7 percent of its fundraising goal in less than two months. The citizens committee met Thursday evening at Lugoff Fire-Rescue headquarters. Committee Chairperson Laurey Carpenter said the projected cost for construction is $300,000 and that $21,000 has been raised since the fundraising campaign began in June.

Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a Camden man Aug. 1 for possession of a stolen handgun just days after being freed on a $20,000 bond for a charge of second-degree assault and battery. Deputies first arrested the man on July 26 for allegedly attacking his 12-year-old son with his fists and a flashlight. Online court records show the man was freed on bond on July 28.
