Ivanhoe, Va. - Frank Brunson Tidwell, Jr., 56, of Ivanhoe, Va. and formerly of Camden passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at United In Christ Holiness Church, Ivanhoe, Va. Arrangements by Reese Funeral Home, Austinville, Va.
Mrs. Magnolia Belton, 91, of 314 King St., Camden, died Saturday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Brown's Funeral Home, Camden, who is serving the Belton family.
Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) is purchasing several new pieces of firefighting gear after recently receiving a nearly $5,000 grant from the International Paper Foundation in Eastover. LF-R will obtain large-diameter water manifolds to be placed on all of its fire pumpers. The LF-R applied for the grant in June 2014, according to a press release from Chief Dennis Ray.

I have written here before about how much I like Camden and Kershaw County. That's not just an attempt to get on and stay on "the good side" of those who have always called this wonderful place home. It really is from my heart, and I've lived in enough different places to be able to make that kind of determination. I know the difference.
Kershaw County Council officially welcomed a new councilman and chairman at a special swearing-in ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, along with two other councilmen reelected to their seats for the next four years.
Tuesday, Kershaw County Council passed first reading of an ordinance which, if passed on subsequent second and third readings, will transform what is now all of KershawHealth's properties into a joint business/industrial park with Chesterfield County.
Camden played host to 35 teams of young skeet shooters Saturday, with nearly 500 high school students from all around South Carolina converging on Heritage Farms for the competition. The event is one of five such competitions scheduled around the state. The final state competition will be held in April in Clinton, according to King Haigler Sporting Clays Coach William Tetterton.
Drivers going through Bethune on U.S. 1 are being cautioned to watch their speed as the limit through town has been lowered from 35 mph to 25 mph. The announcement came from Bethune Police Chief Joey Cobb during Thursday's Bethune Town Council meeting.
The Kershaw County Department of Safety and Emergency Services/Code Enforcement is cautioning residents to be wary of a crew of criminals impersonating code enforcement officers in order to steal dogs from their owners. Director Gene Faulkenberry issued a statement recently saying two men and a woman in a white Ford pickup truck had pulled their scam in the Lugoff and Cassatt areas of the county.

The physical fitness and tenacity of two Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) deputies is being credited in the arrest Saturday of a Camden man wanted by the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardons (SCDPPP).
Kershaw County Council meets Tuesday, with public hearings on, and third and final readings of, four ordinances which affect county planning and zoning on the agenda. The matters in question all passed their first two readings unanimously.
