Grant helps LF-R get valuable equipment

Lugoff Fire-Rescue (LF-R) is purchasing several new pieces of firefighting gear after recently receiving a nearly $5,000 grant from the International Paper Foundation in Eastover. LF-R will obtain large-diameter water manifolds to be placed on all of its fire pumpers. The LF-R applied for the grant in June 2014, according to a press release from Chief Dennis Ray.

Camden hosts sporting clays shooting competition

Camden played host to 35 teams of young skeet shooters Saturday, with nearly 500 high school students from all around South Carolina converging on Heritage Farms for the competition. The event is one of five such competitions scheduled around the state. The final state competition will be held in April in Clinton, according to King Haigler Sporting Clays Coach William Tetterton.

A Camden man is headed to prison for nine years after pleading guilty Thursday to two counts each of trafficking crack cocaine and distributing crack cocaine within proximity of a school.

Speed limit lowered to 25 mph in Bethune

Drivers going through Bethune on U.S. 1 are being cautioned to watch their speed as the limit through town has been lowered from 35 mph to 25 mph. The announcement came from Bethune Police Chief Joey Cobb during Thursday's Bethune Town Council meeting.

Crooks impersonating officers to steal dogs

The Kershaw County Department of Safety and Emergency Services/Code Enforcement is cautioning residents to be wary of a crew of criminals impersonating code enforcement officers in order to steal dogs from their owners. Director Gene Faulkenberry issued a statement recently saying two men and a woman in a white Ford pickup truck had pulled their scam in the Lugoff and Cassatt areas of the county.
