ETC amends Elgin Citizen of the Year procedures

On a 3-2 vote, Elgin Town Council voted to amend procedures for the town's Citizen of the Year award during its Nov. 3 meeting. The amended procedures now include making sitting council members ineligible to win the award. The revised procedure will go into effect this year.

Monday to be make-up day for students

Kershaw County School District (KCSD) students will be in close Monday, originally set aside as a professional development day for teachers, because of area flooding which closed schools for a week. The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees approved the make-up day during a meeting Tuesday night, moved from its original Oct. 6 date. Three other make-up days have already been scheduled for Jan. 12, Feb. 15 and March 25 in 2016.

Sam Kendall’s opens outdoor dining area

Sam Kendall's -- located on 1043 Broad Street, Camden -- opened an outdoor dining area last Wednesday giving restaurant patrons the option of enjoying meals viewing downtown Camden. The iron enclosure was installed by Midlands Tooling in Lugoff by David Woolward. Sam Kendall's owner Jonathon Bazinet said that having the dining area was something he has wanted to do for years and was inspired by restaurant dining areas in Chicago.
