Congressional Gold Medal presented in honor of the late Cpl. John Dais

John Dais was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor for distinguished achievement, for his service in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific from 1942-1949. Dais served as a Montford Point Marine, the first group of African-American men to integrate the Marine Corps.

Two more candidates vie for Elgin seat

Two additional candidates, Stacia Grooms and Christopher Renfroe, have registered to run for Elgin Town Council in a June 18 special election. Both Renfroe and Grooms are in their early 20s and are recent graduates of Lugoff-Elgin High School.
