Camden marketing kick-off Wednesday

A community-wide meeting will be held at the Robert Mills Courthouse at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The meeting will inform the public of the beginning stages of the Arnett Muldrow firm's marketing plan for the city of Camden. Arnett Muldrow will gather input to assist with planning efforts for the tourism and city branding.

Elgin moving forward with Potter Park stage

Elgin Town Council is moving forward with plans to build a structure on Potter Community Park, located at the corner of Green Hill Road and Main Street in Elgin. The structure would function as a stage and shelter.

County, Elgin team up to keep waters clean

Clean water is something that can easily be taken for granted, however there are government programs in place to help enforce practices to ensure that the water supply stays clean and uncontaminated. Birthday Books

Addison Guster and Wyatt Rabon of Lugoff recently celebrated their fifth birthdays. Instead of gifts, they asked that their guests bring new or gently used children books to donate to children in Kershaw County. The two friends collected approximately 200 books. "We're giving books to kids who don't have any," Wyatt explained. Addison's and Wyatt's mothers have been celebrating their children's birthdays by collecting books and other needed items for three years now. The books they recently donated at the Kershaw County Health Department will be given to children who visit with their parents.

"Taken too soon" was the phrase repeated numerous times during a vigil Wednesday night to honor Gabbiee Swainson's life. Gabbiee, a student at Ridgeview High School in Richland County, was taken from her northeast Columbia home one year ago.

Elgin may only allow by-permit charity events

Individuals and organizations who want to hold charity events in the town of Elgin may have to apply for a permit to do so in the near future. Tuesday night, Elgin Town Council passed first reading of an ordinance that would establish such a rule. No fee would be charged to obtain the permit, however.

Where’s Waldo comes to Camden

Waldo made a visit to Camden this past Wednesday at Books on Broad. The Find Waldo party began at 3 p.m. and was a culmination of a month long passport scavenger hunt that took participants to 25 local businesses in a search for Waldo.

Habitat for Humanity constructing 35th home

Habitat for Humanity of Kershaw County is constructing its 35th home for a local family. In addition, the Habitat ReStore, 1019 Broad St. in Camden, is now open on Tuesdays, helping to fund Habitat houses through the purchases of store items donated by the community.
