The James Leroy Belk Post 17 Kershaw County Senior and Junior American Legion baseball teams will both begin tryouts for the 2012 summer season on Monday, May 7 at 6 p.m. at American Legion Park on Ehrenclou Drive in Camden.

Season comes to an end for county teams

Things were no better in round two of the state playoffs than they were in opening night play for Kershaw County teams as the Lugoff-Elgin and North Central baseball teams saw their seasons come to an end while the Camden and L-E softball teams were knocked out of the state tourney with second round losses.

P-17ers in it to win it

As he was heading home in the wee hours of Friday morning from Thursday's evening's baseball game at Georgetown, Kershaw County American Legion baseball team pitching coach Will Dorton stopped by a gas station to fill his car's tank. While there, Dorton, who still had his Post 17 uniform on, had a local police officer come up to him asking how the team did and who was pitching in that night's third game.
