Holiday Sales Show at FAC begins Saturday

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County's (FAC) annual Holiday Sales Show, set in the Center's historic Douglas-Reed House (ca. 1812), will feature a selection of fine, handcrafted works of art in clay, glass, fiber, wood, and more, by more than 40 local and regional artists. In addition, locally-produced goodies such as jams, jellies, honey, and candies will be available. The Holiday Sales Show is sponsored by First Community Bank.

Brantley inducted into Columbia Restaurant Hall of Fame

Jack Brantley was inducted into the Columbia Restaurant Hall of Fame in November. Brantley was also presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Greater Columbia Restaurant Association (GCRA). Brantley began Aberdeen Catery in 1985 with just a small party with some friends. Since then, Brantley has catered for two South Carolina gubernatorial inaugurations, President and Mrs. Clinton during their stay in Hilton Head at a Renaissance Retreat and the Augusta National Club House during the Wednesday opening of the Masters for the past 10 years. A calendar tradition continues

Grace Episcopal Church Women have produced a Camden Calendar since 1980. All of the drawings are donated by local artists. The ECW plan to continue donating the profits to assist county residents in need. A calendar for the year 2011 can be purchased for $8 at the Grace Church office, located at 1315 Lyttleton St., Camden or any of the other following locations, Historic Camden, KershawHealth Gift Shop, Hawthorne Pharmacy and other local businesses. Happy 70th Anniversary!

Mr. and Mrs. William R. Ogburn (Bill and Dorothy) celebrated their 70th anniversary on November 23, 2010. They are the proud parents of Beverly (Elliott) Sheorn and William Ogburn, Jr., three grandsons Rob (Kim) Sheorn, Mark (Monica) Sheorn and Hudson Ogburn and four great grand children, Bradley, Chance, Wesley and McCall Sheorn.

Sears of Lugoff donates items to the classroom

Brian Wonderling (middle), owner of Sears in Lugoff, recently donated $700 in classroom materials to four first grade teachers at Lugoff Elementary. The teachers received digital cameras, electronic pencil sharpeners, a CD player, headphones, print cartridges as well as other items to use in their classroom. "It's important for local businesses to support our teachers, especially in this economy," Wonderling said. He also said he hopes he can set an example for other local companies to follow in his foot steps.

Girls in Action make first donation to Food for the Soul

The Girls in Action (GA's) from Springvale Baptist Church in Lugoff collected 534 pounds of food for the new emergency shelter (Food For The Soul) scheduled to open in December. During October their study focused on helping the hungry so, with the help of their church members, they surpassed their goal of 300 pounds of food. The girls also helped out at the Mt. Moriah Soup Kitchen with a Saturday meal. This is the first food donation for the new shelter.

‘Nutcracker’ returns to FAC with local talent

What has become a holiday tradition in Camden returns as the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County welcomes the Columbia City Ballet's (CCB) full-length production of "Nutcracker" to the stage of the Wood Auditorium on Dec. 2 and 3 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and children.

Camden student chosen homecoming representative

Camden resident Mary Margaret Green, a student at Thomas Sumter Academy in Dalzell, was chosen last month by members of her class to represent the ninth grade in the school's homecoming court. Her escort that evening was ninth grade class president Drake McCormick of Sumter. Thomas Sumter's varsity football team trounced Richard Winn Academy 34 to 0 during the homecoming game, a contributing step toward Thomas Sumter's 10-1 season and current SCISA Region AA Championship standing, the school's fourth year in a row.
