God’s Helpers to host mother, daughter banquet

God's Helpers will celebrate their annual Mother/Daughter Banquet on Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. at the Kershaw County Recreation Department. The guest speaker will be Elder Millie Nelson. Nelson is a Congregational Specialist with the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. In this position, Nelson equips and connects local churches to empower them to be effective in ministry to the communities they serve.

Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site to commemorate explorer de Soto’s trip to Camden

Until he died of fever aside the Mississippi River in 1542, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto had been on a quest to find riches, especially gold, to fill his coffers. Confident the precious metal existed in what today is Southeast America, de Soto amassed more than 600 men, 200 horses, massive Irish wolfhounds and numerous pigs to accompany him on what would be a four year exploration or entrada.

Second Look donates to five local organizations

Second Look on Broad Street donated money to five organizations Dec. 1. A total of $1,000 was given to the Weatherization and Repair Ministries, and $1000 was given to the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the KershawHealth Oncology Clinic Art Cart Program. The West Wateree Community Playground Project received $2,500, and the Family Resource Center Teen program and Kershaw County Activity Center received $4,250 each. The total amount of money donated was $13,000.

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County presents Camden Community Theatre's production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!" at 7 p.m. Friday thru Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Wood Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and military.
