Happy 83rd Birthday!!

Millie Branham, of Lugoff, will turn 83 on Thursday, January 26. She has five children, nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She celebrated her birthday at her home with family and friends on Sunday, Jan. 22.

Girl Scout cookies up for sale

NOTE: National media has been covering the story about a new Girl Scout cookie called Savannah Smiles. That is NOT being offered by either council in South Carolina. There are two licensed Girl Scout cookie bakeries in the United States and South Carolina councils both use ABC Bakers -- not the one that introduced the new cookie. As included in the news release, our new cookie will be released next year.

Jackson High School Class of 1970 to host Valentine’s Day gala

The Jackson school class of 1970 will host a Valentine's Day gala at 8 p.m. at the Quality Inn Banquet Room Feb. 10. Tickets are $15 and the proceeds go toward a scholarship fund. Buy tickets before Feb. 10 to be eligible for a door prize and other prizes. Classmates, teachers, administrators and other staff members of the JHSC 1970 and public are welcome. Kershaw County families now warmer

Sixteen families in Kershaw County have a warmer home this winter after local volunteers completed a mission project in December. The WARM (Weatherization and Repairs Ministry) project was held Dec. 30 and 31 with more than 100 volunteers from 17 churches. All work was done free of charge and included repairing floors, replacing siding, building ramps, fixing leaking plumbing, shingling roofs, repairing windows, and insulating homes. To apply for repairs, contact the Housing Coordinator at the United Way at 432-0951.

The Family Resource Center needs caring and committed volunteers to assist in victim services. A volunteer training is scheduled for March 5-9 and March 12.

KC Library to host ‘Kindie Rock’ Monday at the FAC

"Kindie rock" may not be the most commonly known type of music, but that might be changing. Defined by its use of themes for children younger than 10, but in a style that can be enjoyed by parents as well people of all ages, "kindie rock" is one of the fastest growing segments of the music industry. Kershaw County residents will get a chance to explore this new genre of music themselves, for free, when the nationally recognized group Gustafer Yellowgold performs at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County Monday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

3-D solo exhibit on display at FAC

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) welcomes 3-D artist Jen Pepper whose work will be showcased at the FAC beginning with an opening reception today at 6 p.m. in the Bassett Gallery. Join us for the opening reception prior to the production of the "Chicago -- The Musical" which starts at 8 p.m. The reception is sponsored by First Community Bank and includes light hors d'ouevres and a cash bar.

‘Chicago -- The Musical’ takes the stage at the FAC

For more than 13 years, Chicago --The Musical has been seen on Broadway, making it the sixth longest-running production in Broadway history. Now, Camden Community Theatre is bringing this popular show to the Wood Auditorium at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. Chicago runs January 20-22 and 27-29 with evening performances at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and are $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and military. Historical Society & Camden Archives co-sponsor program

The Kershaw County Historical Society will observe its 60th anniversary with a program co-sponsored by the Camden Archives at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19 at the archive and museum. The public is welcome. Exhibits will open for viewing at 2 p.m.

Quilts of Valor honors 5 Kershaw County veterans

Five Kershaw County veterans received quilts in the Douglas Reed House at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County this week. The Kershaw County Quilters branch of the Quilts of Valor Foundation recognized the veterans for their service in conflicts dating back to the Korean War.
