Price House Commission to host tour in honor of Black History Month

In observance and celebration of Black History month, the Price House Commission is sponsoring public tours of four African American Historical Sites in Camden. The sites will be opened on Saturday, Feb. 20 at different times. The sites are Camden Second Presbyterian Church, 816 Market Street, 1 – 1:45 p.m.; Camden First United Methodist Church, 704 West DeKalb Street, 2:15-3 p.m.; Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 801 South Broad Street, 3:30 – 4:15 p.m. and the Price House, corner of South Broad Street and York Street, 4:30-5:30 p.m.

L-EHS, FCA to host rally Monday

On Feb. 22, Lugoff-Elgin High School's Fellowship of Christian Athletes will host a rally for Kershaw County. The rally will be held at the L-EHS Auditorium from 6:30-8:30 p.m. New England Patriot Chaplain Jack Easterby will be the guest speaker and a guest testimony will be given by L-EHS 2013 graduate and USC Volleyball player Megan Kirkland.

Hats for cancer patients

ALALA is a Boutique for cancer survivors all over the state of South Carolina. They come to Camden once a month at the Senior Center on Lyttleton Street. The main office is in Columbia. They help all survivors even if they are uninsured. ALALA provides Breast Cancer patients with prostheses, bras, and wigs. Recently residents and staff from Pinedale Residential Center made and donated Chemo hats for cancer patients to ALALA. Danish String Quartet performs Feb. 14

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County will present the last concert of the 2015-16 Chamber Music Series on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium. This special Valentine's Day concert will feature the world-renowned Danish String Quartet along with members of Decoda, including Claire Bryant (cello), Meehna Bhasin (violin), Owen Dalby (violin), Kris Saebo (bass), Brad Balliett (bassoon), along with Sarah Elizabeth Charles, jazz vocalist. UDC hosts annual Lee-Jackson Luncheon

On January 23, 2016, the John D. Kennedy Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy held a luncheon at the Kershaw House to honor Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and to celebrate the birth date of Generals John D. Kennedy and Joseph B. Kershaw. Guest speaker Alan Roberson from the Confederate Relic Room in Columbia presented a program on "The Burning of Columbia."

CGC meets Monday

The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting on February 8th in the dining hall on the third floor of the Karesh Wing at Kershaw County Medical Center. This has been a long standing club project and the residents really love it and look forward to it! It's a great way to spread joy and love with Valentine's Day right around the corner.
