Bethune Woman’s Club elects new officers

The Bethune Woman's Club recently elected new officers for 2016-2018. The Bethune Woman's Club was organized in 1951 and has served the community throughout the years by providing the Woman's Club Building as a meeting place for community events. Also the members are actively involved in fundraisers, providing scholarships, supporting arts and education, and hosting community events. Salkiehatchie Ministry repairs five homes

Whether they were up on a roof tearing out old tar paper or nailing in new shingles or under the floor boards of a home shoring up timbers, the volunteers of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church's Salkiehatchie-Wateree Camp mission spent a week wiping sweat from their brows with big smiles on their faces.

Celebrating 109 years

Ethel Maxcy Griffin celebrates her 109th birthday on June 30th. Griffin was born in 1907 at Bradford Springs in Lee County. She worked at a department store in Sumter until 1941. She and her husband lived in five different states until his death in 1958. She moved to Camden to raise her children, Charles and Juanita. She started working for Belk's Department store in 1959 and worked there for the next 36 years, until she was 88 years old, retiring three different times. First annual kids’ 4th of July parade in downtown Camden, July 2

Kids are invited to show their patriotic spirit by decorating their bicycles, scooters and wagons, and wearing their red, white and blue for the first annual Kids' Fourth of July Parade in downtown Camden. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Participants are asked to meet at Camden City Hall at 10 a.m. dressed in their parade regalia. Arts Arising underway

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County is proud to host and produce the Arts Arising Summer Program on its campus again this year. This special arts program began in 1988 through a partnership with the Kershaw County School District. This year, 134 children from Kershaw County schools are participating.

Camden First United Methodist Church will celebrate Rev. Larry D. McCutcheon's first anniversary on Sunday during its regular 11 a.m. worship service. Rev. Springdale 5k at Sunrise Walk & Run celebrates seventh year

The Springdale 5k at Sunrise Walk and Run, will be held on Saturday August 20, 2016. The 5k Walk and Run will begin at 8 a.m.. The newly certified, out and back course starts and finishes at the historic Springdale Race Course in Camden. The course is a true "road race" as it all takes place on pavement.

Double Naught Spies to play last Finally Friday

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) will have the last Finally Friday of the season this Friday, June 24 with some good 'ole rock n' roll featuring The Double Naught Spies. The concert will take place from 6 to8:30 p.m. in the Shull Pavilion behind the Wood Auditorium. Rain location will be the stage of the Wood Auditorium. Finally Friday is sponsored by Duke Energy, NBSC, Alpine Agency, Graham Realty, Gadgets of Camden, and City Laundry & Cleaners. Q&A with Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen

Miss Camden, Grace Smith and Miss Camden Teen, Cassandra Gibson will head to Columbia today to begin preliminaries for the Miss South Carolina 2016 pageant. Preliminaries will be held June 21-23 with the final Teen Competition on June 24 and the final Miss Competition on June 25.

UWKC receives $5,000 grant

The Building Industry Charitable Foundation recently awarded a $5,000 grant to United Way of Kershaw County (UWKC). The UWKC is helping 22 homeowners in Kershaw County with flooring issues, broken cabinets, window and door damage from swelling and contracting, plumbing concerns and washed out driveways. In receiving the donation, UWKC President Donny Supplee stated, "When business and non-profits come together great things happen". Since the flood in October 2015, the Building Industry Charitable Foundation has provided grants of $115,000 to support neighbors across the state that were flood victims.
