Camden AKA sorority chapter hosts youth summit

The Iota Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Vonnie Holliday Foundation invite all students ages 11 to 18 to the second annual Camden Community Youth Summit on Saturday, Oct. 4.

FAC to host annual ALPHA Center Hispanic Event

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the ALPHA Center invite the public to the third annual "Un Día de Campo entre Amigos" -- A Celebration of the Hispanic Culture. The event will be held Sept. 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. on the FAC grounds. The festival is free of charge and will include a celebration of culture with fun, great food, and the showing of the feature presentation "Huapango," a view of the Hispanic culture.

4H recognizes L-EHS student for leadership

Clemson University's 4H program recently named Lugoff-Elgin High School senior Sidney Goff as one of 10 state winners at its 4H Congress Awards Banquet. Sidney's award includes a college scholarship and trip to the National 4H Congress in Atlanta.

Kershaw County quilters will attend Quilts of Valor event

Quilters from around South Carolina, including the Quilters of Kershaw County, will attend a fundraiser for the S.C. Quilts of Valor (QOV) Foundation on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the S.C. National Guard Armory in Columbia.

Morris College residence halls to be named for two Kershaw County women

Morris College opened two new residence halls this year, and is naming one of them one in honor of two deceased Kershaw County natives: Dr. Daisy B. Alexander and Audree Adamson Clark. The new structures were made possible by a 10 million dollar gift given by Dr. Solomon Jackson Jr.

Pine Tree Hill Elementary and North Central Middle School students observe 9/11

North Central Middle School students read a script accounting the 9/11 events minute by minute. They read the exact time when the first plane crashed into the Twin Towers, the exact time when President George W. Bush was notified, the exact time that the second plane crashed into the towers, the exact time that the Pentagon was struck and more events that occured on that day. Pine Tree Hill students observed 9/11 by wearing red, white and blue, and they had special lessons about the importance of that day.

Lugoff Garden Club welcomes Bishopville topiary artist

Pearl Fryar, well-known Bishopville topiary artist, will be the guest speaker at the Lugoff Garden Club's first meeting of the 2014-2015 years on Monday at 6:30 p.m. Members will meet at the home of Mrs. John Henderson (Charlene) in Kings Grant. The Lugoff Garden Club's meetings will be held the third Monday of each month September through May.

Mayor Scully makes first donation to Knights of Columbus for annual drive

The Knights of Columbus Council of Camden will not kick off their annual Operation Hope Drive until Sept. 25, but Mayor Tony Scully made a donation at Camden City Hall Wednesday, Sept. 10, making him the first person to donate and get the first Tootise Roll from the Knights.

FAC brings Dancing with the Stars back to Camden for second year

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County invites the public to an evening of dance and entertainment at its second annual presentation of "Dancing with the Stars," Saturday, Sept. 20. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour with appetizers catered by Carolina Café at 7 p.m. and the performances will start at 8 p.m.

Second Look donates to five local organizations

Second Look on Broad Street donated money to five organizations Dec. 1. A total of $1,000 was given to the Weatherization and Repair Ministries, and $1000 was given to the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the KershawHealth Oncology Clinic Art Cart Program. The West Wateree Community Playground Project received $2,500, and the Family Resource Center Teen program and Kershaw County Activity Center received $4,250 each. The total amount of money donated was $13,000.

FAC presents The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County presents Camden Community Theatre's production of "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!" at 7 p.m. Friday thru Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in the Wood Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and military.
