Guild blacksmith at Historic Camden

If you get mesmerized watching skilled blacksmiths work the forge, then plan to stop by Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. At the site's traditional forge and assorted portable forges, will be members of the Philip Simmons Artist-Blacksmith Guild of South Carolina.

2014 first quarter Chance Art presentation

Jo Griffith won the first Chance Art prize from Camden Art this year. Griffith was happy to receive her original work of art from Jane Hannon – a local professional artist from Camden. The original work of art was a wonderful example of contemporary art. Griffith said she was surprised to win but plans on collecting more of Hannon's work.

Pasture management workshop to be held

A pasture management workshop, open to Kershaw County Landowners, will be held April 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with lunch provided. It will be held at the Clemson Sandhill Recreation Lakehouse at 900 Clemson Road in Columbia.

Operation Inasmuch to benefit KC non-profits

Each spring, congregations of Lutheran Churches in South Carolina participate in a designated day of service, inspired by the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25 that "inasmuch as we serve the least of these, we serve Him." Operation Inasmuch is a movement of churches across America, a Compassion Revolution, which calls church members to move out of their seats and into the streets to serve their neighbors.

Patriot’s Day at BDK

Mrs. Robin Sowell's fourth grade class at Baron deKalb Elementary School recently recognized Patriot's Day. Patriot's Day is part of the "Why America is Free" curriculum. During this event, students were immersed in the Revolutionary Era and rotated in groups through different stations that included the language of the fan, militia training, the taking of the tea, quill and ink writing, historic games and a Colonial dance.

A.W. Duo concert tonight

A.W. Duo, a piano and cello duo made up of pianist Alyona Aksyonova and cellist James Waldo, will perform a benefit concert at Grace Episcopal Church in Camden tonight. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the church, 1315 Lyttleton St.. Proceeds from the concert will support Heartfelt Home Repair, Grace Church's ministry to the elderly and underprivileged.

California Dreaming -- a musical journey through the 60’s and 70’s

Performers from Springer Theatricals will take audience members to a time when folk music met rock music and gave birth to an explosion of music that was danceable, easy to sing and oh so romantic when the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County presents the national tour of California Dreaming on Apr. 5 at 8 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium. Second Look Charities awards Mildred Yvonne Williams Scholarship

Second Look Charities provides $6,000 yearly in scholarship support to the Foundation Scholars Program at Central Carolina Technical College (CCTC). Two of the recipients are Alice Holmes and Emily Tidwell. Holmes and Tidwell received the Mildred Yvonne Williams Scholarship named in memory of a dedicated Second Look Charities volunteer.

Camden Seniors and Friends group donates goods to DSS

Recently, Thelma Rutledge and members of Camden Seniors and Friends donated books, stuffed animals and pillow cases to children in the Department of Social Services (DSS) system. Rutledge explained the group wanted to give back to these children. "We bought the stuffed animals and goods and delivered them," she said. Rutledge stated that she handmade the 50 pillowcases that were donated.
