Bethune Tour of Homes

The Bethune Womans Club is sponsoring a Bethune Tour of Homes Dec. 4. The tour will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets, which are $10 per person, may be purchased from members of the Womans Club, from Sandhills Bank in Bethune or, on the day of the event at the Bethune Woman's Club, 200 King St. Refreshments will be served at the Woman's Club. Happy Feet

In early November, the Camden and West Wateree Rotary Clubs came together to provide shoes for Kershaw County students in need. The program, "Happy Feet", gave deserving children vouchers to purchase a new pair of shoes at the Camden K-Mart.

The Camden Junior Welfare League announces the tour sites for the 35th annual Candlelight Tour of Homes on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. Twelve sites are featured on the tour and proceeds benefit children in need in Kershaw County.

Food for the Soul opens shelter

Food for the Soul, the Camden-based ministry to the county's hungry and homeless, announced that Jimmy B. Farmer has been named Shelter Manager. Farmer will manage the overnight winter shelter program, which opened for the first time last week.

The Lugoff Garden Club celebrates 30 years

The Lugoff Garden Club celebrated its 30th anniversary in September. To honor the anniversary, members of the club gathered at Sylvia Varn's Lugoff home to commemorate the occasion. Varn is the only active founding member. The club was founded 30 years ago with 10 charter members. Since then, it has grown to 22 members. The club participates in many gardening projects around the Lugoff community, filling, watering and caring for public area flower beds. L-E Demonfest Alumni Reunion

The Alumni of Lugoff-Elgin High School celebrated with a "Demonfest" on Oct. 21- 22. The all-class reunion was kicked off with a meet and greet party at Gadget's in Lugoff. Family Day was held at Doby's Mill Elementary School and the closing reception was held at the Shriners Club on Kershaw Highway on Saturday evening. Classmates Rebecca Nienow, Tammy King Yarbrough, and Nadine Kinard enjoyed the evening together. The reunion coordinator was Chrissy Goff.

Scully returns to FAC with ‘The Voices of Camden, The Quarrel with Oneself’

"The Voices of Camden, The Quarrel with Oneself," the popular Tony Scully workshop in writing and performing dramatic monologues, is back on the boards for the 10th time. This performance will feature some of Tony's favorite monologues from the past and is entitled "My Favorite Monologues." Soon to be a book, this is only a small portion of what will be published in the near future. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Wood Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Local artist awarded

Denise L. Greer, an artist from the Boykin area, was awarded $250 for her painting "Hung Out To Dry" during the South Carolina Watermedia Society's award luncheon held Nov. 5 at the Harbor Club in Charleston. Green's work was also chosen to be part of the 2012 Museum traveling show. Each month, for a year, her painting will be exhibited in many South Carolina art museums.

Chili champions

The United Way of Kershaw County held its first Chili Cook-off on the Town Green in downtown Camden Saturday. The day was filled with children playing ball, face painting, a wide variety of folks dancing to the music of Second Nature and, of course, lots of chili. There were 17 competing chili teams. Cole chosen to perform at Walt Disney World Thanksgiving Day Parade

Brittany Cole, daughter of Todd Cole of Bishopville and Loretta and Fred Wrigley of Chapin, has been chosen to join a select group of elementary, junior high, and high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. that will perform in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) Thanksgiving Tour Parade at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.

FAC to present ‘Zombie Prom’ with local teens

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and the Columbia Children's Theatre will present Zombie Prom, a Youth Theatre Production, November 10-13 in the Wood Auditorium. Evening shows start at 7 p.m., with the Sunday matinee starting at 3 p.m.. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and military. Zombie Prom is sponsored by Modern Turf.

Mayor Scully makes first donation to Knights of Columbus for annual drive

The Knights of Columbus Council of Camden will not kick off their annual Operation Hope Drive until Sept. 25, but Mayor Tony Scully made a donation at Camden City Hall Wednesday, Sept. 10, making him the first person to donate and get the first Tootise Roll from the Knights.

FAC brings Dancing with the Stars back to Camden for second year

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County invites the public to an evening of dance and entertainment at its second annual presentation of "Dancing with the Stars," Saturday, Sept. 20.
