Brittany Cole, daughter of Todd Cole of Bishopville and Loretta and Fred Wrigley of Chapin, has been chosen to join a select group of elementary, junior high, and high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. that will perform in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and Universal Dance Association (UDA) Thanksgiving Tour Parade at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Fla.
The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and the Columbia Children's Theatre will present Zombie Prom, a Youth Theatre Production, November 10-13 in the Wood Auditorium. Evening shows start at 7 p.m., with the Sunday matinee starting at 3 p.m.. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students, seniors and military. Zombie Prom is sponsored by Modern Turf.
For Savannah (left) and Sonya Cary, community service comes as second nature. The girls, both Stover Middle School students, recently organized a "pack-a-pick-up" to benefit local animal shelters, including the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter. Other shelters benefiting were SQ Resque and Pets Inc.
The week of Nov. 13-20 is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. The United Way of Kershaw County and partnership agencies want to bring awareness to solving the problem of hunger and homelessness in Kershaw County.

Braelyn Olivia Privette was born July 15, 2011, becoming the fifth living generation of her family. She is the daughter of Alyssa Carter and Josh Privette. Braelyn's great-grandma Frances B. Robinson, 89, is known as "Grandma" to 18 children, "Great-Grandma" to 44 children, and now a proud "Great-Great Grandma" to one. The five generations include (from left) Laura Bedenbaugh, grandma; Alyssa Carter, mother; Frances Robinson, great-great grandma with Braelyn; and Paulette Branham, great-grandma.
The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting Monday at Proctor Hall. There have been many meetings here in the past and it's perfect for the program scheduled. This month, a randomly selected group of members will make arrangements with the flowers, greenery, and containers that will be provided for them. This allows members to get hands on experience and have fun at the same time. Afterwards, the club will critique and judge the creations.

The Lugoff Optimist Club has updated and installed a new sign located on U.S. 1 South on the right side of the road as one drives across the Wateree River bridge from Camden.
The Lights of Lugoff Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. beginning at the BP Station in Lugoff, down U.S. 1 South towards Elgin and ending at S.C. 34 at McDonald's. Both lanes of U.S. 1 will be closed this year for the parade, sponsored by the Lugoff Optimist Club.
The Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County offers out patient care to Kershaw County residents who have no health insurance and can not pay for health care or medications. The clinic is recruiting volunteers to staff the front desk, to screen new patients for eligibility, to fill medication orders and to serve on special event and fundraising committees. There is also a special need for health professionals such as RN's, CNA's, or medical assistants to take vital signs and blood sugar levels.
The "Step Up for Sullivan Memorial Walk" will be held Nov 5 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the walk starting at 10 a.m. The events will be held at the Lugoff Elgin High School Stadium. The fundraising event is sponsored by MADD Kershaw County in honor of what would have been Sullivan Spradley's 12th birthday. Participants can walk in memory of loved ones who were lost due to alcohol related automobil crashes. Registration is $25 with a T-shirt included. Students age 14 and up are $10. The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) is planning a very special evening on Friday. The Equine Triumvirate: Lauren Allen, Libby Bussinah & Rachel Parker, a celebration of the equine industry through art opens in the Bassett Gallery with a reception from 5:30-7 p.m. followed by the Charles Wadsworth & Friends concert at 7 p.m. The exhibit will run through Dec. 2.

The Kershaw County Parks and Recreation Department and First Palmetto Bank recently sponsored their annual Christmas Card Contest. The contest is designed to give elementary school students in Kershaw County the opportunity to show off their creativity and artistic skills by sending a Christmas card. It also gives students the chance to win cash prizes from First Palmetto.

Second Look on Broad Street donated money to five organizations Dec. 1. A total of $1,000 was given to the Weatherization and Repair Ministries, and $1000 was given to the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County and the KershawHealth Oncology Clinic Art Cart Program. The West Wateree Community Playground Project received $2,500, and the Family Resource Center Teen program and Kershaw County Activity Center received $4,250 each. The total amount of money donated was $13,000.
