Historic Camden calls all bargain seekers to Fall Market Day

Calling all treasure hunters and bargain seekers! Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site will host its 15th annual Fall Market Day fundraiser on Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission and parking are free and Historic Camden's food concession will offer chili dogs, homemade sandwiches and assorted baked goods.

Students at LeGrand Institute collect donations for Sistercare

Students from LeGrand Institute of Cosmetology are collecting donations for a local charity, Sistercare. Sistercare is a program of services for battered women and their children residing in Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Newberry and Richland counties in South Carolina. Domestic violence is a far larger problem than most people realize. And unfortunately we see more and more women and children who need the help of organizations like Sistercare.

KC Historical Society to discuss local, regional railroad history

On Sunday at 3 p.m., the Kershaw County Historical Society will host a meeting at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County, located at 810 Lyttleton St., Camden. The public is invited and there is no charge to attend. Dr. Rodger E. Stroup, past director of the S.C. Department of Archives and History, will be the presenter. He will discuss pre-railroad transportation in South Carolina; the development of railroads in general, with an emphasis on South Carolina railroads; and the development of railroads in Kershaw County and Camden. CMC Autumn Attic sale begins Friday

Deb McAbee (top), resource development coordinator of the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, shows off some of the items to be available at the clinic's Autumn Attic Sale. How about a dandy doghouse for your pet or brand new sandals from Sisters of Camden? The Autumn Attic Sale will offer a wide variety of dinnerware and unusual items like this vintage record player, pictured below. The sale, a fundraiser for the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, is set for noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday 25.

Mommy-wise

Mommy-Wise is in it's fourth season and second year of business. The creative business, founded by Amy Sandt and Ashley Smith (right), is a children's consignment shop for mothers to make money by selling gently used items, as well as find good deals on what their children may need. The sales are held twice annually. This past sale was held at 1012 Broad St., Camden and ran from Sept. 13 to 18.

Community citizens encouraged to donate blood

Kershaw County Emergency Services is partnering with the American Red Cross South Carolina Blood Services Region for the first annual "Boots, Badges & Gloves" blood battle. The event will be held 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday at K-Mart, 2209 W. DeKalb St. in Camden.

15th annual Fire Fest to be held Sept. 25

The Lugoff Fire Department will team with the Camden Fire Department and the Kershaw County Fire Service Sept. 25 to sponsor the 15th annual Fire Fest, the largest gathering of emergency service personnel and vehicles in Kershaw County.

Lugoff teen collects shoes for those in need

Claire Yount, daughter of Ed and Gina Yount, granddaughter of Don and Barbara Branham, all of Lugoff, and granddaughter of Bob Yount, of Greenville, is a 13-year-old philanthropist. In addition to donating hair to Locks of Love, gathering newspaper for the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter and collecting can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, Claire organizes shoe drives for Soles4Souls.
