Camden Seniors and Friends group donates goods to DSS

Recently, Thelma Rutledge and members of Camden Seniors and Friends donated books, stuffed animals and pillow cases to children in the Department of Social Services (DSS) system. Rutledge explained the group wanted to give back to these children. "We bought the stuffed animals and goods and delivered them," she said. Rutledge stated that she handmade the 50 pillowcases that were donated.

Aberdeen Easter Family Tour

Dale Sheheen, chair of Mental Health America (MHA) of Kershaw County recently announced MHA would be hosting its third annual Easter Family Tour at Aberdeen, home of Jack Bantley. Sheheen said, "Jack Brantley has again opened his home and grounds to our organization for a fund raising opportunity. Our mission is to promote mental health and to work for improved care, treatment and quality of life for persons with mental illness."

North Central High School crowns Miss and Mr. Green and Gold

North Central High School (NCHS) recently crowned Abigail Durant and William McInvaille as its 2014 Miss and Mr. Green and Gold. Contestants in the pageant danced to an opening number. The pageant's theme this year was "Blast from the Past," so the contestants' casual wear was theme-based.

Charlotte Thompson Bar-B-Q celebrates 56 years

Thursday, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Charlotte Thompson Fire Department (CTFD), located at 746 St. Matthews Road in Camden, will hold its 56th annual barbecue. All plates are $8 each and profits benefit the volunteer fire department and the community center. The event is an opportunity for friends and neighbors to eat together at the community center. Take-out is also available.

Family Resource Center seek men to stand up against sexual violence

The Family Resource Center has launched a campaign to engage men and boys in ending sexual violence and child abuse. The 100 Men Strong Campaign is asking 100 men to stand strong and declare that violence against women and children must end. Men who are interested in joining our movement can do the following:
