United Way accepting funding applications

The United Way of Kershaw County Board of Directors announces the availability of $20,000 to address the identified focus areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health and Hunger, and Homelessness. The funds are available through a competitive application process to any non-profit organization serving the community.

The Friends of the Kershaw County Library half-price book sale will be Saturday at the Burndale Shopping Center in the "old Piggly Wiggly Building" at 51 East DeKalb St. in Camden. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hayes presented with Woman of the Year Award

At the 2013 Mid-Winter Conference, Teresia Hayes was presented the National American Legion Auxilary Woman of the Year Award. She is the first South Carolinian to receive this prestigious award. Friends of the KC Library to hold annual book sale

The Friends of the Kershaw County Library Annual Book Sale will be held at the Burndale Shopping Center in the "Old Piggly Wiggly" building on Jefferson Davis Highway in Camden. The sale began Thursday, with "Friends' Night" exclusively for members of Friends of the Library from 6 to 8 p.m. The sale will be open to the public on Friday from 12 to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. "Half-price Sale Day" will be the following Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 ...

UDC, SCV conduct Confederate Memorial Day service

The John D. Kennedy Chapter #308, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Joseph B. Kershaw Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans held a memorial service on May 9 at the Unknown Soldiers plot in Quaker Cemetery. There are more than 200 Confederate soldiers resting in Quaker Cemetery, including 19 in the unknown plot. The memorial marker states: "The final resting place of 19 Confederate Soldiers who died in the Camden Wayside Hospital and were cared for by the citizens of Camden."

60th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jackson of Seneca, SC are celebrating their 60th anniversary on May 29, 2015. They were married at Shalersville Methodist Church in Ravenna, Ohio. They have three children: Lori Post of Columbus, Ohio; Denise Miller of Evergreen, CO and Jeff Jackson of Taylors, SC; four granddaughters: Ali Lefort, Nikki Steelman, Katie Post and Meredith Post. Mr. Jackson is retired from Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid Corp. Mrs. Jackson is retired from the Kershaw County School District. A future cruise is being planned.

FAC Day Camp registration underway

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) announces its summer camps and activities for both children and adults beginning in early July of 2015. Enjoy favorite standbys such as dance, clay, and visual art, along with several new and exciting camps this summer.
