Food for the Soul Passes the Plate

Food for the Soul, a Camden-based ministry that provides meals to the hungry and homeless in Kershaw County, will kick off its Pass the Plate! fundraising campaign on Sunday, when several area churches will collect special offerings to support the charitable organization. The campaign, which will conclude Sunday, August 14, will focus on "passing the plate" in local civic groups, community organizations, businesses and churches around the county.

Camden Rotary Club awards scholarships

The Camden Rotary Club awarded six scholarships to local seniors. Four students received $1,000 each and two students received $500 each for having the two highest SAT/ACT scores at Camden High School. Helping those in need

Roosevelt Halley (left) and David Engram (right) left on May 19 to help with the relief efforts in Epes, Ala., where the homes of hundreds of people were torn apart in late April by violent storms and tornados. Vet office donates $1,600 to animal shelter

The Wateree Animal Hospital in Elgin held a fundraiser, Bow Wow Backyard Sale, to raise money for the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter. The Wateree Animal Hospital was able to make a $1,600 donation after the sale. The Bow Wow Backyard sale was made possible by donations from community members. The event also featured a k9 exhibition. Organizers plan to have a second sale in the fall.
