Family Resource Center seek men to stand up against sexual violence

The Family Resource Center has launched a campaign to engage men and boys in ending sexual violence and child abuse. The 100 Men Strong Campaign is asking 100 men to stand strong and declare that violence against women and children must end. Men who are interested in joining our movement can do the following:

KC Library to celebrate nature with Josh Castleberry

Due to winter weather conditions, the previously scheduled program by Josh Castleberry at the Kershaw County Library Camden branch has been rescheduled. It will be Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Castleberry will be discussing the natural history of native animals.

Kershaw County schools celebrate Red Cross month with penny drive

Kershaw County schools are celebrating March as Red Cross Month by holding their annual Million Penny Drive to benefit the American Red Cross Sandhills Chapter. The coin collection takes place during March at all Kershaw County public schools.

Black History program focuses on Gullah culture

On Feb. 23, the Humanities Council of South Carolina, in conjunction with the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Lugoff sponsored a Black History Program featuring Sharon "The Gullah Lady" Cooper-Murray presented on Gullah culture as the guest presenter.

James ‘Rosco P. Coltrane’ Best of The Dukes of Hazzard to appear at Fine Arts Center

James Best, better known as Rosco P. Coltrane from TV's The Dukes of Hazzard will bring his one-man, multi-media show to the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County on March 22 at 7 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium.

Camden Rotary gives to Sacks of Love

Historical Society reschedules speaker

Due to the recent snow and ice storm, the Lee County Historical Society cancelled its Feb. 11 meeting. The guest speaker for that meeting, Mr. Isaac Joe, has been rescheduled for the March meeting on Tuesday.

West Wateree Rotary Wild Game Dinner

The West Wateree Rotary announces the first inaugural Wild Game Dinner and Silent Auction the evening of April 5 at Old McCaskill Farm in Rembert to raise money for graduating Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) seniors. Club President Amy Schofield describes the event as "down-home and delicious," with wide support from the community. "I'm particularly excited by how we will be showcasing local talent. Hunters in our club provided the game, local musicians will provide the blue grass, and a wonderful local farm will be providing a great setting and a great cook."

CJWL accepting grant, scholarship applications

The Camden Junior Welfare League (CJWL) is now accepting applications for grant money to be awarded to 501 (c) (3) organizations specifically dealing with children in the Kershaw County area. Grants range from $250.00 to $2,500.00.

Anderson 50th anniversary

Jeanette and Tommy Anderson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 1 with their family. The Andersons were married March 1, 1964 at Highway Pentecostal Holiness in Elgin by the late Rev. N. D. Sellers. They remain active and devoted members of the Highway Church.
