Richard Rowland Kirkland remembered

On December 13, 2014 at the fountain in Hampton Park, the John D. Kennedy Chapter number 308 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) and the Joseph B. Kershaw Camp number 82, SCV held the 152nd memorial service honoring Sgt. Richard Rowland Kirkland., "Angel of Marye's Heights."

Pageant queens gear up for 2015 Miss Camden and Camden Teen Pageant

The 2015 Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen Pageant will be held at 6 p.m. tomorrow in the Camden High School Performing Arts Auditorium. Eight young ladies from around the county will compete for the titles of Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen. Admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. What Makes a Hero?

If your idea of a hero starts with a knight slaying a dragon, a roman gladiator fighting battles with a sword and suit of armor, or even a soldier fighting in a distant land, then maybe you have the wrong idea of what a hero may be. Is your hero brave and courageous, does he act on his own accord for his or her fellow human being, risking his or her life? Then possibly you may know and respect the meaning of a hero.

Doby's Mill Elementary School's Lego Robotics Team (Team 787) won 1st place at the Lexington Regional FLL (First Lego League) Qualifying Tournament.
