NCMS holds Miss Patriot Pageant
On Friday, Feb. 25, under the direction of Rebecca Greenway and Jodie Kahler, North Central Middle School held its annual Miss Patriot Pageant. This year's theme was Under the Sea. Each contestant was judged and scored in three areas:
Day Before the Cup Bake Sale
The United Methodist Women of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church will hold it's annual Day Before the Cup Bake Sale on Friday, April 1. DAR held scholarship luncheon
The Hobkirk Hill Chapter for the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held it's scholarship luncheon earlier this month at Springdale Hall Club in Camden. The proceeds from the luncheon will go toward a DAR scholarship for a Kershaw County woman studying history, political science or a related field.

The National Society Daughters of the American Colonists' goals are to be patriotic, historical and educational in honoring our heritage.
Camden Belk to host Spring Kidfest with fashion show
Belk in Camden will host the Belk Spring Kidfest on April 9th from noon to 4 p.m. The event will feature local children in a spring fashion show at 1 p.m. The show will be emceed by Jane Peterson from the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County. Tom Sorrells from Camden Mobile Music will be the DJ.
Local churches repair 15 homes
The Weatherization and Repair Ministry (WARM) completed it's latest project on Dec. 30-31. The 140 volunteers worked together to repair 15 homes in Kershaw County. Community Medical Clinic seeks volunteers
The Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County offers out patient care to Kershaw County residents who have no health insurance and can not pay for health care or medications. Youth basketball tourney to be held April 8-10
Above The Rim X III Part 2, a double elimination for age groups 11U and 17U, will be held at Rhame City Arena, 517 Bull St., Camden April 8 - 10. Celebrating 50 years together
Mr. and Mrs. James L. Hough celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 30th, 2011 with a barbecue at their home. Lloyd and Ann were married January 28, 1961. In addition to the barbecue, they will also celebrate with a trip in the spring to Asheville, N.C. with their three sons; Tony, Chris, and Michael; their daughter-in-laws and grandchildren.

Finally Friday returns to FAC
With the warmer weather comes Finally Friday at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC). Local band KT & Friends will take the stage at the first Finally Friday concert of the spring on March 25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. This will be the fifth year for this popular series.
North Central Knights reunite
North Central Class Reunion for those graduating between 1990 and 2000 are invited to TenEleven Galleria in downtown Camden May 21 at 6 p.m. The cost for this event will be $25 per couple and $20 for single. Food for the Soul soup kitchen and emergency shelter will "Pass the Plate" this summer in churches, civic clubs, businesses, and community organizations to support the ministry's outreach to Kershaw County's hungry and homeless.

Former Camdenite wins ‘Best In Show’
Former Camdenite Manda McKay's painting "Love You To Death" won "Best In Show" at Southworks 2013. The Oconee County Arts Foundation (OCAF) hosted the opening reception April 12 in Watkinsville, Georgia. McKay grew up in Camden and graduated from Camden High School.
LeGrand Institute practices fire safety
Students at the LeGrand Institute of Cosmetology in Camden received a lesson on fire safety at a recent event at the campus. Assistant Fire Chief Eddie Gardner came out to the school and taught students how to use a fire extinguisher. Local author publishes book about student success in the classroom
Books on Broad will host Jayne Bowers as she discusses and signs Eve's Sisters and Crossing the Bridge: Succeeding in a Community College and Beyond on Thursday, May 23, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Books on Broad is located at 944 Broad St. in Camden. The event is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and autographing.
Elks Lodge recognizes 2013 Oustanding Young Students
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks designated the first week in May as Youth Week to honor America's Junior Citizens for their accomplishments.
Hayes Creek Skateboarding Competition
There will be a skateboarding competition Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Hayes Creek Subdivision in Elgin. The event is sponsored by Salty's Board Shop in Columbia. The proceeds from the competition will go towards purchasing skateboarding gear for the park in an effort to keep kids off of drugs and keep them off of the streets.
