Celebrates 100 days of school by giving back

In honor of being in school for 100 days, the kindergarten and pre-K students at Camden First Baptist Church collected more than 300 pieces of food to donate to Christian Community Ministries. In total, 98 students and 18 teachers participated. In addition to the food collected at school, 5-year-old Abbygail Caulder celebrated a recent birthday and asked all her attendees to bring canned good instead of gifts for herself.

Annual Gospel Fest, Heritage Tea planned at FAC

The Multi-Cultural Committee of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is pleased to announce two annual events celebrating Black History Month. The seventh annual Gospel Fest takes place Feb. 18, followed by the Heritage Tea Celebration on Feb. 19. This dedicated committee has put together these special programs celebrating the spirit of community with a special emphasis on Black History at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC.) The special sponsorship of this weekend's celebration is provided by the Piggly Wiggly of Camden.

Price House to host annual Black History Month exhibit

Camden's historic Price House at the corner of Broad and York Streets will host The annual Black History exhibit will be held at Camden's historic Price House at the corner of Broad and York Streets Feb. 22 to 25, from noon to 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Feb. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. At 5 p.m., Sunday, February 26, Camden Second Presbyterian, located at 816 Market Street, will host the annual Sunday evening Black History Month program. Both events are free and open to the public.

Griffin to be guest speaker for Joseph B. Kershaw Camp

Chuck Horton, Commander of the Joseph B. Kershaw Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans, in Camden, announced that their guest speaker for the Feb. 16 meeting, Thursday, Feb. 16, 6:30 p.m., at the Camden Seafood Hut, will be Civil War Historian Dr. John Griffin, who has spoken to their Camp on several previous occasions.

Cabaret Night with Columbia Ballet at FAC

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) announces the second annual performance of Cabaret Night with the Columbia City Ballet in the Wood Auditorium tonight at 7 p.m. Tickets to this, one-night-only event are $35 each. The ticket price includes a wonderful "After Party" at TenEleven Galleria immediately following the performance. Only Cabaret Night ticket holders will be allowed access to this special gathering.

Ministerial Association reflects on meaning of observance, announces Community Lenten Services

The Kershaw County Ministerial Association (KCMA) has a tradition of offering Community Lenten Services. These services are hosted by a local congregation while inviting another local pastor to preach. In past years these services were held in the evenings. This year the services have been moved to the noon hour.

FAC to hold auditions for Aladdin

Auditions for Aladdin, a collaboration with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and Columbia Children's Theatre will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Wood Auditorium at the FAC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aladdin will be co-directed by Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of the Columbia Children's Theatre and Candace Fuller, who was assistant director of last fall's production of Zombie Prom. All children ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to come and participate. There is no audition fee.

KCSD, Walmart partner again to ‘pack a bus’

Camden Walmart customers know that it's back to school time again when they see the school bus out in front of the store promoting the partnership between the store and the Kershaw County School District to help local needy students receive school supplies. Walmart's annual "Pack A Bus" campaign kicks off Friday and runs for two weeks.
