The Camden Community Concert Band (CCCB) will present its Winter Concert on Sunday at the Performing Arts Center at Camden High School. Start time is 3 p.m. Admission is free. Soloists Mike Clyburn and Robert Wertz will be featured in a duet of "With You I Am Born Again" -- a piece arranged by Wertz. This concert will feature some guest conductors, guest musicians and the hand bell choir from Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. The Camden Poets Society (CPS), an affiliate of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC), celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Douglas-Reed House on the campus of the FAC Feb. 7. Anyone who had ever participated in the Camden Poets Society was invited to attend. Notebooks covering the 20 years were on display along with published books of poetry. There was also a special display honoring members who have passed away along with samples of their work.
The Friends of the Kershaw County Library Annual Book Sale will be held at the Burndale Shopping Center in the Old Piggly Wiggly building on Jefferson Davis Highway in Camden. "A storybook perfect performance" will be portrayed when Columbia City Ballet takes to the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) stage on Tuesday, Feb. 28 and Thursday, March 1 with their production of "The Sleeping Beauty." The production will feature the talents of more than 30 local youth representing three different dance schools in the Camden area. Both performances will be held in the Wood Auditorium at the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County and will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $18 for students, seniors and military. Camden High School recently held the Junior Miss Gold and Black and the Miss Gold and Black pageants in the Camden High Performing Arts Auditorium. The Camden Bulldog Club sponsored the pageants this year as a fundraiser to support the athletic program at Camden High. The pageant theme was "Then A Hero Came Along." During the finale of both pageants, representatives from the military, law enforcement, education, medical services, emergency services, and community volunteer services joined the contestants on stage and were recognized as "heroes" in their respective professions.
The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) is rolling out the pink carpet for Columbia Children's Theatre's (CCT) delightful children's production of "Pinkalicious The Musical." During the weekend of Feb. 10-12, dancers from Palmetto Dance Center competed at Encore Dance Competition for the Stars and qualified all 34 of their routines for the National Dance Championships to be held this July in Savannah, Ga. The solos, duos, and teams brought home twenty-three first place trophies, seven second place trophies, three third place trophies, and one fourth place trophy. In honor of being in school for 100 days, the kindergarten and pre-K students at Camden First Baptist Church collected more than 300 pieces of food to donate to Christian Community Ministries. In total, 98 students and 18 teachers participated. In addition to the food collected at school, 5-year-old Abbygail Caulder celebrated a recent birthday and asked all her attendees to bring canned good instead of gifts for herself.
The Multi-Cultural Committee of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County is pleased to announce two annual events celebrating Black History Month. Five Kershaw County veterans received quilts in the Douglas Reed House at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County this week. The Kershaw County Quilters branch of the Quilts of Valor Foundation recognized the veterans for their service in conflicts dating back to the Korean War.
