Equine Triumvirate featuring the works of Lauren Allen, Libby Bussinah, Rachel Parker

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) is planning a very special evening on Friday. The Equine Triumvirate: Lauren Allen, Libby Bussinah & Rachel Parker, a celebration of the equine industry through art opens in the Bassett Gallery with a reception from 5:30-7 p.m. followed by the Charles Wadsworth & Friends concert at 7 p.m. The exhibit will run through Dec. 2.

Lights of Lugoff set for Dec. 10

The Lights of Lugoff Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. beginning at the BP Station in Lugoff, down U.S. 1 South towards Elgin and ending at S.C. 34 at McDonald's. Both lanes of U.S. 1 will be closed this year for the parade, sponsored by the Lugoff Optimist Club.

Falling for fun!

Historic Camden hosts Revolutionary War Field Days

Once again, the acrid smell of campfire smoke and the trill of the fife will fill the air when the armies of the Revolution pitch their campaign tents on the grounds once occupied by British forces in 1780. In the camps will be some 500 American, British and Hessian troops and civilian interpreters.

CMA presents choral showcase

On Nov. 7, the Camden Music Association (CMA) will present a choral showcase at the Lugoff-Elgin High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Schools and organizations participating are Doby's Mill Choraliers, directed by Helen Walker; LE Elementary Singers directed by Robin Courson; Camden Elementary School Chorus, directed by Regina McDonald; The Kershaw County Show Chior directed by Sandy Pace; Stover Midde School Chorus directed by Brian Heyward; Pine Tree Hill Chorus directed by Angie Lawson; Camden Middle School directed by Sandy Pace; and Chamber Choir of Kershaw County directed by Susan Wyatt.

Truesdale/dell/del family reunited

On Oct. 1, for the first time in more than 20 years, the Truesdale/dell/del families met at Bethany Baptist Church for a reunion. They came, arms full of food, photographs, computers, and memories to share with each other. They began arriving before noon, eager to meet relatives that they had heard of but never met except via e-mail and phone calls. Many had never known they had living relatives other than their immediate kin.

Painting with a purpose

Two fourth-graders from Malvern Hill Baptist Church and Camden Elementary School had a goal: revamp the visitation room at the Department of Social Services (DSS) to make it more child-friendly for foster children who come through. McKenzie Taylor and Madison Williams ran two lemonade stands to raise the money. They also received two gift cards donated by Wal-Mart totaling $125, a can of paint donated by Lowe's and the hard work from the Malvern Hill Baptist Church youth group to complete the project. Outreach Bicycles aims to provide 100 children with wheels this holiday season

It's the time of year when Outreach Bicycles for Needy Children continues to advance the cause of donating bicycles to a needy child. This year, Alesha Hudson's (right) goal is to donate 100 bicycles. She did not reach her goal last year of 100, but was able to collect a total of 85 bikes and see 85 smiling faces.

Five generations together

On Aug. 2, Jillian Leigh Odom and Charles "Charlie" Allen Furniss announced the birth of a baby boy, Mason Allen Furniss. Mason then became the fifth living generation in the family. FAC brings drive-in movie, Finally Friday concert series to Camden

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) is planning two family-oriented events this month. A Drive-In Movie Night is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. featuring Stephen Spielberg's popular movie, "E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial." The following weekend marks the return of the popular outdoor music series, Finally Friday, with its Halloween edition from 6 until 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. Admission to both events is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Sounds of jazz music to fill historic downtown Camden

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County will present its 10th annual Jazz at the Center Music Festival, April 25-27, in historic downtown Camden. The featured concert this year takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday in Wood Auditorium, following a cocktail reception from 7 to 8 p.m. in the lobby. Palm Sunday Walk in Camden

Last Sunday was Palm Sunday, the beginning of the Christian Holy Week, leading up to the celebration of Easter. Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a donkey to celebrate Passover the week that he died. Kevin Shaw (portraying Jesus in photo) leads members of area churches down Mill St. in Camden.
