Kershaw County Volunteer Guardians ad Litem (GAL) will be honored at a reception to be held tonight at the Fine Arts Center. Camden Junior Welfare League offers grants, scholarships to community organizations
The Camden Junior Welfare League is now accepting applications for grant money to be awarded to 501 (C)(3) organizations specifically dealing with children in the Kershaw County area. The children of Camden First Baptist Church's kindergarten and childcare collected 700 items of food to donate to Christian Community Ministries in honor of being in school 100 days.
The Pitchforks, South Carolina Heart Gallery opens at FAC Friday

Northcutt to represent American Legion Post 17 in Oratorical Contest
Post 17 contest chairman Richard Lackey congratulates Daniel Northcutt as post-level scholarship winner of the American Legion High School Oratorical Contest. Northcutt, a home-schooled junior, will represent Post 17 at the Zone Four contest to be held in Camden Feb. 19. The winners of the four zone contests will compete at the state level. State winners earn a trip to Indianapolis to vie for the national title which carries an $18,000 scholarship award.

Students at the LeGrand Institute of Cosmetology in Camden received a lesson on fire safety at a recent event at the campus. Assistant Fire Chief Eddie Gardner came out to the school and taught students how to use a fire extinguisher. Hayes Creek Skateboarding Competition
There will be a skateboarding competition Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Hayes Creek Subdivision in Elgin. The event is sponsored by Salty's Board Shop in Columbia. The proceeds from the competition will go towards purchasing skateboarding gear for the park in an effort to keep kids off of drugs and keep them off of the streets.
