The Weatherization and Repair Ministry (WARM) is planned for Dec. 28 and 29. Volunteers from local churches will work together to repair fifteen homes of families in need in Kershaw County.

I was handling my emotions pretty well until Patsy Topping picked up my sweet foster dog Lindy and took her inside of the transport bus. That's when I got a little misty eyed. Miss Emily McElveen crowned at pageant

Emily McElveen was crowned Miss Merry Christmas Overall Queen at the annual pageant held in Lexington on December 8, 2012. Emily is also the SC Diabetes Association's ADA Queens For a Cure 2012 Overall Winner. She will be representing the association in several events and fundraisers during the coming year. Emily is the three-year-old daughter of Ray & Aimee McElveen and is a student in the 3K class at Grace Church Kindergarten.

Lyttleton Street UMC presents a live Nativity scene Dec. 23

The Youth of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church will present a live Nativity scene, Dec. 23 at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. They invite the public to join them for this special event. Afterwards, guests are invited to the Family Life Center for hot chocolate and to view the Christmas Tree Showcase. Children's and youth Sunday school classes have chosen a theme, made ornaments and decorated the trees that are featured in the showcase. Lyttleton Street UMC wishes the community a Merry Christmas.

Bel Canto, a musical ensemble of Columbia, will present a Christmas program on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. at Moriah Baptist Church, located on the corner of Broad and York Streets. The program will feature carols, spirituals, modern pieces and gospel selections.

Lakeside Ministries donates to local charities

Lakeside Ministries is an interdenominational worship service supported by Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church. Each summer, all offerings are donated back to the area communities through local charities. $10,415 was collected this year and will be divided between charities that help provide food, shelter, clothing and housing to people; charities that help children in need, help with addiction and animal care. Some of the local charities are Christian Community Ministries of Camden, Food for the Soul Kershaw County, Family Resource Center, Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County, Walter M. Joey McClain earns Eagle Scout rank

Joseph "Joey" McClain achieved the rank and distinction of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor ceremony on Nov. 10. A longtime member of Troop 316 sponsored by St. John's United Methodist Church, Joey's required service project included installing two permanent fire containment pits at Poinsett State Park in Wedgefield. Joey is pictured here alongside the fire safety rules he constructed and installed on site. The son of Lisa McClain of Lugoff, Joey is currently studying Music Education at Lander University in Greenwood.
