The Camden Music Association presents annual Spring Instrumental Showcase

The Camden Music Association (CMA) will present its annual Spring Instrumental Showcase, Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC.) Tuesday's concert will feature a number of local students in a variety of musical disciplines from the North Central Band Ensemble, Doby's Mill Rockin' Recorders, and Strings in the Afternoon. 2012 Brevard Scholarship winner, Zack Truesdale, (marimba) will perform along with Junior Scholarship winner Kirkland Moranos (flute) and Senior Scholarship winner Bailey Dabbs (piano). Bridal showcase to be hosted at Proctor Hall

Louise C. Proctor Hall, located at 2030 Lyttleton Street, Camden, will host a fashion show featuring bridal gowns and formal wear from Bella Vistas in Columbia. This event is the first of its kind for the hall. Louise C. Proctor Hall is a non-profit organization that provides a setting for any type of social event. Louise Proctor left the home to the ladies of Camden to provide them with a location for parties, weddings and meetings. Since the formation of the non-profit organization in 1957, the hall has been the setting for many weddings and local events.

The Chamber Choir of Kershaw County (CCKC) will perform its annual Spring Concert on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the Wood Auditorium of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC). General admission tickets are $5 and will be available at the door.

2012 Youth Arts Month Exhibit winners announced

The winners of the 2012 Youth Arts Month exhibit were announced during an opening reception on Thursday, March 8 in the Bassett Gallery of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC). Youth Arts Month is a partnership project of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County and the School District of Kershaw County's education programs and is sponsored by Target. The winning pieces are now part of a traveling exhibit to be hosted by Kershaw County businesses over the next year.

Cobb rocks out to win second annual Kershaw County’s Got Talent

After three nights of auditions where preliminary judges saw 59 total contestants and 20 finalists performed in the live finale, a winner has been announced. Julianna Cobb of Lugoff was declared the winner of the second annual Kershaw County's Got Talent produced by the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) on March 24. The event was emceed by KOOL 102.7/STARTIME1590's Patty Rose and Tyler Cupp.

Celebrating 102 years

Ms. Hazel Scheidt of Lugoff celebrated her 102nd birthday with friends and family April 6 at Southwinds Assisted Living Facility in Lugoff. In honor of her birthday, Scheidt's daughter, Betty Ann Cymansky and the Southwinds staff made cake and refreshments to mark the occasion. Originally from New Jersey, Scheidt has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Kershaw County Farmers Market opens Saturday

The Kershaw County Farmers Market opens Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. The market is located behind First Community Bank in Downtown Camden. Music will be provided by Jeff Clark and Paul Hayes. Come shop the market for Certified S.C. products, fresh produce, meats, seafood, plants, and more. KCFM will be open every Saturday through Nov. 17.

United Way conducts Be A Bunny program for the 11th year

The United Way "Be A Bunny" program enlists people from the community to fill Easter baskets for individuals representing three United Way agencies, the Council on Aging, Family Resource Center and the Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, as well as 132 children from the Kershaw County School District.

Kershaw County Parks and Recreation, First Palmetto Bank hold annual Christmas Card Contest

The Kershaw County Parks and Recreation Department and First Palmetto Bank recently sponsored their annual Christmas Card Contest. The contest is designed to give elementary school students in Kershaw County the opportunity to show off their creativity and artistic skills by sending a Christmas card. It also gives students the chance to win cash prizes from First Palmetto.
