Santa to visit Lugoff Dec. 2

Santa is coming to town Dec. 2 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Lugoff-Elgin High School on U.S. 1 in Lugoff. Santa will be giving out stockings full of goodies to the kids, refreshments for everyone, and kids can have their picture made with him. Parents can take their own picture or professional photos will be available for purchase. Admission is free and kids can tour the fire trucks and get fire prevention materials. Lugoff-Elgin Girl Scout Troop looks back on achievements in 2011, plans for 2012

Once again your Lugoff-Elgin Girl Scout Troop No. 968 is reporting on our activities. We have had a very good year and a wonderful summer with four of our girls, Amber Mitchell, Jessica Black, MacKenzie Saverance, and Olivia Lamphere, all earning their Bronze Award. These girls worked hard over the summer making and painting birdhouses, wind chimes, and a bird bath for the residents of Springdale Nursing Home. The girls did a wonderful job and all the people are really enjoying their endeavors.

Blaney receives seed grant from KershawHealth

Blaney Elementary School in Elgin is launching a campaign to fund a half-mile walking track and fitness trial on the school's property. This project will benefit not only Blaney students, but students from nearby Leslie M. Stover Middle School as well as residents of surrounding communities.

Bethune Tour of Homes

The Bethune Womans Club is sponsoring a Bethune Tour of Homes Dec. 4. An orientation for potential participants in the James Leroy Belk American Legion Post 17 Annual High School Oratorical Contest will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 at Post 17's home on West DeKalb Street in Camden. Colonial Christmas at Historic Camden

It's unlikely that today's kids will be asking Santa for a "bird on Bellows, Prussian Dragoon, Tunbridge Tea Sett, or neatly dress'd Wax Baby." Happy Feet

In early November, the Camden and West Wateree Rotary Clubs came together to provide shoes for Kershaw County students in need. The program, "Happy Feet", gave deserving children vouchers to purchase a new pair of shoes at the Camden K-Mart.

The Lugoff Garden Club celebrates 30 years

The Lugoff Garden Club celebrated its 30th anniversary in September. To honor the anniversary, members of the club gathered at Sylvia Varn's Lugoff home to commemorate the occasion. Varn is the only active founding member. The club was founded 30 years ago with 10 charter members. Since then, it has grown to 22 members. The club participates in many gardening projects around the Lugoff community, filling, watering and caring for public area flower beds. L-E Demonfest Alumni Reunion

The Alumni of Lugoff-Elgin High School celebrated with a "Demonfest" on Oct. 21- 22. The all-class reunion was kicked off with a meet and greet party at Gadget's in Lugoff. Family Day was held at Doby's Mill Elementary School and the closing reception was held at the Shriners Club on Kershaw Highway on Saturday evening. Classmates Rebecca Nienow, Tammy King Yarbrough, and Nadine Kinard enjoyed the evening together. The reunion coordinator was Chrissy Goff.

An icy challenge

Thursday marked a special day for Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) students. Not only did they beat their Thursday morning goal of raising $5,000 for the United Way of Kershaw County (they raised $5,300), they got to see cheerleaders, ball players and the L-EHS Demon mascot douse Principal Worth Thomasson not once, but three times with ice cold water for their efforts.
