Fundraiser to benefit Elgin Military Salute Monument

The town of Elgin will host a chicken bog fundraiser dinner June 13 from 4-7 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church's Fellowship Hall. Tikets can be purchased from Elgin Town Hall and the cost is $7.50 per adult and $4 per child (12 and under). You can bring your family and dine in or stop by and pick up a to-go plate. 2014 Clinic Classic Winners

The 2014 Clinic Classic 5K/10K was held April 26 in downtown Camden. The annual event benefits the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County. Awards were given to the top male and female runners and age groups. For the 5K race, the top male overall runner was Ryan Plexico of Columbia, with a time of 17:11. Camden High School’s The Palmetto Leaf student newspaper lands honors, awards

The staff of Camden High School's newspaper, The Palmetto Leaf, came away from the South Carolina Scholastic Press Association's (SCSPA) Spring Conference April 22 with a handful of honors and awards. Staffs may submit one entry each semester in 11 of 12 different categories.

Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program 2014

The Kershaw County Council on Aging Senior Center, in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, will be issuing free coupons to low income individuals age 60 and older that may be used to purchase fresh produce at local participating farmers markets. Each eligible person will receive $25 worth of coupons that may be used at participating markets from May through October 15. The coupons will be issued on a first-come first-served basis until the supply is exhausted.

KCARC booth at KC Farmers Market

The Kershaw County Amateur Radio Club (KCARC) will be setting up a booth and radio station at the Kershaw County Farmers Market Saturday and again May 24. The club's mission is to provide emergency communications to the community, present information to better prepare the community for those emergencies and inspire interest in the hobby. KCARC has been designated a special services club by the Amateur Radio Relay League, along with being Ambassadors for the Weather Ready Nation program.

Camden ART Members’ Honors Show and Exhibition

The Fine Arts Center (FAC) invites you to the exhibit "Nature, the Artist's Joy," the 2014 Camden ART Members' Honors Show in the Bassett Gallery. Each year, the Camden ART Spring Honors Show presents an opportunity to view more works of the winners of the Annual Fall Show. This show promises to be a splendid exhibition of creativity in a variety of styles and mediums. The winners that will be represented are Emily Houde, Linda Kincaid and Beth Woodall.

BES hosts celebrated poet in residency

Celebrated Charlotte, N.C., poet Chuck Sullivan taught poetry to students in grades 2 through 5 at Bethune Elementary School (BES in mid-February as part of the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County's School Arts Program. The program facilitated 30 weeks of artist residencies this school year, and is funded in part by the S.C. Arts Commission (SCAC), which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Chamber Choir of Kershaw County Annual Spring Concert Tuesday

The Chamber Choir of Kershaw County (CCKC) will present its Spring Concert with guests Helen Walker and the Doby's Mill Chorus on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center (FAC) of Kershaw County. Accompanying CCKC will be guest violinist David Pazdurski on the Bach Sanctus in D Minor. Also included in the program will be a brilliant Et Resurrexit by Monteverdi, as well as works of Callcott, Gibbons and Vaughan Williams concluding with songs of America: Folk, Broadway and Gospel. The CCKC is directed by Dr. Susan Wyatt. Tickets are $5 at the door.
