Louise Mickle Harvey scholarship awarded to Savannah Long

Bethesda Presbyterian Church recently awarded the Louise Mickle Harvey Scholarship fund to Savannah Long. Long is currently a second year medical student and University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She intends to pursue primary care residency and to return to Camden after her training concludes. The scholarship, which was established by the late Tom Mickle in 1995 in memory of his wife who had the desire to be a doctor, is awarded to a deserving female medical student from this area. Animal activist remembered

To say that long-time Kershaw County Humane Society president Judy Thiel was an advocate for the proper treatment and care of animals in Kershaw County is a grave understatement. "What Judy did extended much further than Kershaw," said Thiel's long-time coworker and friend, Sharon Jones. Jones, who is the director of the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, spoke about Thiel's dedication and activism for all aspects of nature. "She loved wildlife. She loved whales and monkeys, all animals. She put land into a conservation foundation -- she protected trees just as much as she protected puppies and kittens."

Where’s Waldo comes to Camden

Waldo made a visit to Camden this past Wednesday at Books on Broad. The Find Waldo party began at 3 p.m. and was a culmination of a month long passport scavenger hunt that took participants to 25 local businesses in a search for Waldo.

Belger receives 4H Volunteer Award

Wayne Belger of Boykin recently received the Glen Krohn Outstanding 4H Volunteer Award at Clemson University.Each year, Clemson Extension Service recognizes three individuals that have made outstanding contributions to the 4H youth program in South Carolina with the Glen Krohn Outstanding 4H Volunteer Award.

The Wateree District of the Boy Scouts of America had its awards ceremony March 14 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Lyttleton Street Methodist Church. Around 80 scouts and friends attended this event.
