Five generations of love

Braelyn Olivia Privette was born July 15, 2011, becoming the fifth living generation of her family. She is the daughter of Alyssa Carter and Josh Privette. Braelyn's great-grandma Frances B. Robinson, 89, is known as "Grandma" to 18 children, "Great-Grandma" to 44 children, and now a proud "Great-Great Grandma" to one. The five generations include (from left) Laura Bedenbaugh, grandma; Alyssa Carter, mother; Frances Robinson, great-great grandma with Braelyn; and Paulette Branham, great-grandma.

The Camden Garden Club to host November meeting Monday

The Camden Garden Club will hold its next meeting Monday at Proctor Hall. There have been many meetings here in the past and it's perfect for the program scheduled. This month, a randomly selected group of members will make arrangements with the flowers, greenery, and containers that will be provided for them. This allows members to get hands on experience and have fun at the same time. Afterwards, the club will critique and judge the creations.

Lights of Lugoff set for Dec. 10

The Lights of Lugoff Christmas Parade will be held Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. beginning at the BP Station in Lugoff, down U.S. 1 South towards Elgin and ending at S.C. 34 at McDonald's. Both lanes of U.S. 1 will be closed this year for the parade, sponsored by the Lugoff Optimist Club.

Volunteers needed at Community Medical Clinic

The Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County offers out patient care to Kershaw County residents who have no health insurance and can not pay for health care or medications. The clinic is recruiting volunteers to staff the front desk, to screen new patients for eligibility, to fill medication orders and to serve on special event and fundraising committees. There is also a special need for health professionals such as RN's, CNA's, or medical assistants to take vital signs and blood sugar levels.

Memorial walk held in honor of Sullivan Spradley

The "Step Up for Sullivan Memorial Walk" will be held Nov 5 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the walk starting at 10 a.m. The events will be held at the Lugoff Elgin High School Stadium. The fundraising event is sponsored by MADD Kershaw County in honor of what would have been Sullivan Spradley's 12th birthday. Participants can walk in memory of loved ones who were lost due to alcohol related automobil crashes. Registration is $25 with a T-shirt included. Students age 14 and up are $10. The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) is planning a very special evening on Friday. Fred J. Florian and Pearl Polinski Florian of Camden Celebrated 60 years of marriage Nov. 20. The couple married in 1954 at St. Hilary's Catholic Church in Washington, Pa. They have five sons: Fred. M, Tony, Robert, Bill and Chris. The couple has four grandchildren: Derick, Thomas, Kayla and Rachel.

Howard and Cornelia Joy celebrate 60 years

Howard and Cornelia (Keys) Joy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 25. The couple was married in Camden and together they have five children: Audrey Joy of Allentown, Pa., Howard Joy Jr. (Nancy) of Dover, N.J., Karen Joy-Wilson (Isaac) of Piscataway, N.J., Michael Joy of Kanas City, Mo. and Gregory Joy (Dana) of Bonaire, Ga. Amateur Radio Club welcomes Gene Faulkenberry

Gene Faulkenberry, director of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), visited the Kershaw County Amateur Radio Club's November meeting. Director Faulkenberry gave a brief history on the large scale emergencies that he has seen during his time with Kershaw County. He highlighted Hurricane Hugo in 1989, the train derailment in 1990 and the flooding that occurred when many ponds were breached after heavy rains in 1991.
